View Full Version : UK Domain reselling?

H'lo,

Any recommendations for a domain reselling service that handles UK domains at a cheap/reasonable price? (Cost to registrar is £5 / 2 years ~ $10).

Would prefer not to be a reseller of a reseller - even if it means paying a little more. I'm not so keen at being at the mercy of another person higher up the chain ;)

Suggestions?

Why don't you become a member of Nominet? That way you are truly independent of others.

It's GBP 400 (plus VAT) to join and GBP 100 (plus VAT) per year, but I think it's worth it.

As already mentioned Nominet is the way to go. Check out their website for detailed information:

To be honest, I just don't shift enough domains to make the yearly costs worthwhile. I'm also quite keen to have all domains located in a single place rather than the uk ones at nominet and .com/.net etc somewhere else :/

I'm really just looking for a reseller registrar with cheap .uk prices

Tucows charge $13 for .uk domains to resellers for 2 years which is about £6.50 plus you get to sell all their other service as well including all the other domain extensions from .com right through to .it and .fr.

We are official .uk registrars but use Tucows for .com etc. If our volumne was lower I would just use Tucows for them all to be honest.
If you start that way you can move to your own IPSTAG later if you want to.

The problem you are likely to have though is checking domain availability. The Nominet DAC system is a serious PITA.

What I am about to write is written on the assumption that you are in the UK.

I am a strong believer in using companies that are located in the country in which I live (which happens to be the UK at the moment). They're more accessible than companies the other side of the world, and if things go really wrong I can just pop down to my local County Court and take out a summons.

As I mentioned earlier I register .uk domains direct - but if we hadn't joined Nominet all those many many years ago I'd have no hesitation to use a UK-based registrar. For .uk domains there are loads to choose from.

I have recently made a conscious decision to transfer all my GTLD domains to a UK-based company, for the reasons mentioned. UK-based GTLD registrars (as opposed to resellers) are few and far between, and some of them charge some pretty extortionate prices. However, I have found one with reasonable fees - totalregistrations.com - and I've been transferring my domains to them. I'm paying more there than I was paying with my previous registrar (Dotregistrar), but it's worth it for the peace of mind of dealing with a UK company.

Tucows have an office and staff in London. I have them on my MSN contact list. They are very accessible.

I'm actually already with totalregistrations.

But the costs for gTLD domains is a little high for me :/

Compared with other UK-based registrars (such as Netnames) I thought their prices are quite reasonable - at least once you get past the initial hurdle, i.e., your first 10 domains. As long as you register or transfer 11 or more domains in each month you pay £6 per year.
