Do any of you think that rackshack hosts are affecting your business where they give away 2 times the resources in terms of bandwidth compared to the "normal" host?

Yes and no.

It hurts a little bit...but we also get alot of refugees from those kind of hosts. They can compete in resources...but if the support isn't there, the customers won't stay long.

Just like any business, if you don't have a plan and don't suppor the customer you're going to crash and burn in the long run. There's plenty cheap dedicated providers out there nowadays; don't blame RackShack for poor quality of service provided by the company you lease from. Using RS to save a buck isn't a bad thing when you know what you're doing, most people however don't understand the concept of "unmanaged hosting".

Rackshack are not the cheapest. There's a much wider range now, offering more for less. But at the end of the day, the other replies in this thread are more to the point...it is the support that's on offer that matters. The same client sites are not necessarily going to use all the extra resources. We've got 200 domain boxes that are using anywhere from 4GB to 800Gb per month...everyone's happy.

On personal package sales, nope. On commercial package sales, again nope. It all comes down to support. My customers would rather pay more then get crappy slow support. I only have to deal with 20 customers when these RS hosts deal with 100+, and we both make about the same anyway (income to customer ratio)

RS hosts are (I think anyway) more for personal sites. Commercial customers tend to understand how much things cost and are willing to spend the money for what they want, not what they are being told/sold.

RS above = Actual RS hosts, but also cheap colo, dedicated hosts, etc etc.
