View Full Version : Free Hosting Control Panels
mikelbeck 09-11-2007, 07:58 PM I'm looking to buy a new server, and I don't want to pay for cPanel (or any hosting panel) anymore... so now I'm looking at the free options available.
Of these, which is the best?
GPLHost
ISPConfig
VHCS
Are there any others?
mikelbeck 09-11-2007, 08:10 PM Sorry, I should've mentioned that this server will be running CentOS 5 (32 bit).
logbear 09-11-2007, 09:43 PM I have used DTC (from GLPHost) and although it requires some tweaking for CentOS, I think it is a good package. You may have to adjust other things to get to adapt it for your needs, and it will require some knowledge from your part but it is fairly flexible.
I've tested the other packages you listed, and all of them needs to be adjusted as well (at least for me) but I found DTC to be the most flexible and easy to get of all. YMMV
Tip: get to play with the CVS version of DTC

boonchuan 09-15-2007, 07:24 PM This should be better in the Controlpanel section, not suitable here in the Windows Web Hosting forum. Moved.
david510 09-16-2007, 04:03 AM You may use webmin. Its easy to install and manage.
mikelbeck 09-16-2007, 11:24 AM That's what I wound up using... webmail & virtualmin. It takes some getting used to after using cPanel for years, but it seems to be ok. I do like the fact that it has much more OS related things in it compared to cPanel.
bryonhost1 09-18-2007, 11:18 AM Hi!
Centos 5..ugh. I've had problems putting anything on it..
why Cent5?
It has been awhile since we had a post like this..so..here's the free web control panels I am currently aware of:
Ravencore
VHCS
ISPConfig
Webmin
DTC
Anymore since we're doing a roundup? :)

Thanks a lot for saying that of our work.
I wouldn't have recommend our control panel for CentOS, I'm really surprised that you are saying it works ok with it. We do all of our developments for Debian, and we are only trying to build a RPM repository right now with our new employee in Ecuador, as it seems many people like CentOS (I personally hate yum's sloppyness, and hate writing RPMs...), so I hope it's going to get better soon.
May I ask you what adjustments you think was needed? I'd be very happy to include any modification that one could do, we always do apply patches when they are good.
By the way, we have stopped using CVS and switched to Git, as it's by far better. Git was first written by Linus Torval himself, and I have to admit that he has addressed all the conceptual problems of CVS in his wonderful Git. It's principle is really cool, I love to do my updates over SSH and knowing that there's nothing needed more than a ssh and a web server to setup a Git server.

Confess 09-24-2007, 11:52 PM In all hopes, RapidCP should be coming out soon. They look excelent.
gplhost 09-25-2007, 08:26 AM From what I can see of the demo of RapidCP, it has the look and feel of cPanel, which $ùx highly, IMHO.

I can't find the demo... got a link?
gplhost 10-18-2007, 12:14 AM Yes it was hidden on the site, as not all sections are open. But I have managed to find out!
