As I was browsing through various company reviews today including Commit1, One question that popped into mind was why do we verify positive company reviews and let negative reviews go? I've ran into several people here who have got negative reviews from former/potential/existing clients just simply as a "defense mechanism" and/or revenge with no truth behind it at all just to affect a company's profits for whatever the reason may be. I am just curious as to why we would be so strict on positive reviews and leave out the negative reviews? Allot of people are in this industry and living off of it, but any client that doesn't feel they have gotten what they should have has the right to come here and try to degrade a company and make them lose potential sales with no justification, opposed to a positive review a client has to supply a domain name currently hosted with the provider? I just would like to know what you other guys/gals think about this... and by the way, :lovewht:

I don't think that we let the negative reviews go. From what I have seen, both positive and negative reviews are typically asked for domain verification.

But perhaps what you say is the case, because we all know that people are much more likely to go out of their way to post negative reviews. So when we see a new member with one post and one positive review, we automatically have our doubts.

On one side its much easier to verify a good review over a bad review. A good one should be hosted on the providers IP's(quick domain check) the BAD one would be long gone and would have to give more info to get it verified. But I have to admit, it seems much easier to hurt a company via a bad post, than help a company with a good one.

Are we more concerned of hurting more of the industry or helping each other build? In other words, which should we mainly focus on?

Are we more concerned of hurting more of the industry or helping each other build? In other words, which should we mainly focus on?Neither. Focus on doing good business, and you won't have to worry about reviews. You'll drve yoruself crazy trying to track down every little thing someone's ever said about you in all the communities and review sites around the Web.

As for verification, sometimes people ask for verification publicly and it is given publicly (usually other members will ask for it before a moderator ever gets a chance). Sometimes we'll get verification via PM. Other times we'll open tickets through the help desk. The whole idea of verifying reviews caught on so well, the community has taken the idea and run with it all on its own. But statistically, positive reviews are much more prone to abuse than negative ones (shilling is much more common than malicious negative reviews from non-customers), so these tend to get said scrutiny more publicly than others.

... why do we verify positive company reviews and let negative reviews go? ...Like mtgm said, we don't. :)

And by we, I mean the WHT community as a whole. :lovewht:
