Hi, my hosting service had me install viper guestbook. I really need it. Unfortunately, after working well for about a year I am now getting hundreds of spams! I was told by several so called experts to install Captcha however after many failed attempt have now given up. I have done code before, but no one seemed to give me the right instructions of how do do it, I.e where do I place the code? Which code and on which pages, where on the page!

My question is: Is there any better spam protected stand alone guest book which I can upload to the web server? Where can I find and install the new Viper Guest book X1 which I have heard has captcha pre installed into it? What should I do or does someone have a detailed step by step instruction of how I can once more try and install it?

I would be very grateful for any assistance.

Regards, qsch

You might try Lazarus guestbook (http://carbonize.co.uk/Lazarus/). It's been working rather well for me, and it's really simple to intergrate it.

I gave up on Viper a while back for exactly that reason. You could use the captcha from www.neoprogrammers.com if you can work out how to integrate it. I find it very effective, but for a guestbook I now use phpBB, which has a captcha plugin.

Looks like any support for that guestbook is long gone:

I would just go with another guestbook as most all of them now come with the built in captcha feature and are free.

Perhaps a final word on Viper Guestbook. Installing it using cPanel and Fantastico you are shown their home page - http://www.vipergb.de.vu/

Visiting this link one finds that "The Viper Guestbook Project Is Dead."

I used it and liked it...
