View Full Version : Disk Space Your Clients ACTUALLY Use?

I was hoping to get some feedback from some of the hosting providers who have actually been in the field for awhile. On the average, how much disk space do your clients REALLY use? I have had so many requests for packages with 200MB-500MB of storage, when the reality ends of being they only end up using about 5MB-10MB of that storage. Any ideas on how I can communicate to clients that they most likely dont really need the high amount of disk storage they continue to request?

Continued success to all of you :)

Our plans offer 1000MB of storage.
Customers still on average use 5-10MB

I think that this all depends on the client. We have some that use a lot and some that only utilize 10% of their alloted amount. Its kinda hard to say but for the most part not many use more than what their package comes with.

5-10 MB is usually what our clients use!

Average clients use less than 10MB. Mid clients use about 100MB and the huge clients currently average 6G of disk space each and growing every month.

yeah, i would say most people use 5-10 megs, with a few exceptions that use 50 or so. :D

5-20mb I guess is our average. They order 250mb and use just under 50, and only 25% of their allotted bandwidth.

Difficult question. Some use 1 meg and some use 1 gig.

Average customer uses 2 MB of traffic and less 500 MB of bandwidth per month. Largest diskspace usage customer uses about 478 MB and about 2 GB of bandwidth. Largest bandwidth customer right now used 7 GB of bandwidth this month.

This numbers are off the top of my head and are probably not the most accurate, but in general they are consistent with what I have seen on my servers.

i run a gaming review site, i typically have about 200mb of graphics, screenshots and html pages...
and from time to time go up to my 1.5GB capacity when a new release is made available for dl...

That is why shared servers are so cheap.

The light users pay for the heavy user!!!

If everybody used their alocated bandwidth and Space companies would charge more, SO....Less customers and profits. The business would be more risky.

I had it all figured out last month what the averages were for consumption on the server but I can't seem to find it right now. I believe the average disk space was about 7MB.

largest disk space holder is 764 MB
larged bandwidth gobbler is about 16 or 17GB

I have seen for us, our largest one is 25 GB and our small ones are around 150MB-300MB sites.

A couple hundred with 50-100MB range though.
