Has anyone else noticed video card/network/dsl problems after uninstalling Zone Alarm?

I uninstalled it yesterday.....and my graphics were juttery in Quake3 and DSL pings were higher than usual. Reinstalled it...all back to normal

I wont be installing it again when I format thats for sure

They have a procedure for uninstalling it on their web site, the uninstall script does not clean it off all the way.

zonealarm, bah, i much prefer Black ICE Professional in conjunction with AdSubtract.

nobody gets in, it features application protection which is incredibly easy to use and with adsubtract in there then i dont get any bugs from IE, plus with Outlook XP all my e-mails i get in are safe.

all works very well together.

I used to use Zonealarm. Then I read some place that ZoneAlarm had spyware in it. It tracked everywhere you went and "called" home every few days.

How ironic.. isn't that one of the things ZoneAlarm was designed to prevent?

I personally don't waste my time with rubbish such as ZoneAlarm which introduces more problems than it fixes. I've come into contact with it when installing networks in small business offices/homes and it is an absolute pain.

My personal preference has always been Tiny Personal Firewall. I used to use Zone Alarm, but I found Tiny to be a bit less dumbed down than ZA.

You read wrong. ZoneAlarm does not track you or use spyware. ZoneAlarm is a good first firewall but if you want more control (& complexity) try the free firewalls from www.Kerio.com or www.agnitum.com

I meant that the article was wrong, not your interpretation of it. Accusations about ZA spying are made from time to time, mainly fingering ZA's Truevector technology as the culprit, but all have been proven baseless. Most likely the user has checked (or not unchecked) a box to check for ZA version updates.

Sygate Personal Firewall. Great as a combo with the software router!
