View Full Version : Is india good for Domains registration?
liasion 09-05-2007, 05:42 AM Hi all,
I just wondered whether India is / has good market for domain registrations?
Are there any well-known companies? and reliable for the same?
Can anyone suggest me please?
Thanking you.:lovewht:
dollar 09-05-2007, 05:53 AM I've been using DirectI for a long time (resellers are now under the name ResellerClub) and I'm very happy with them. They are an India based company I believe.

Directi rocks. If u want other providers then you may look into namecheap or enom. So far i have not heard anything bad about Directi
Trinity70 09-05-2007, 07:42 AM I have never reged my domains with Indian companies. I have done it only with Namecheap.com. Their services are great.
wonderpoint 09-05-2007, 08:21 AM I have few domains registered through DirectI (aka ResellerClub). I have no experience with their ticket support system. I generally call them if I have questions and they handle issues promptly. Sometime they give outbound calls as well. Their interface is complicated and may take sometime to explore and get used to all the functions/features they offer.
ashokuh 09-05-2007, 09:33 AM As for as India is concern RC is good and their support is 24x7.
hosteur 09-05-2007, 10:25 AM I too use Di for age, awesome specials !
pravZ 09-05-2007, 10:48 AM Hi,
In india i am doing business with qualispace.com, they are providing me the domains at very reasonable rates and that too at very low prepayment. Support is satisfying. Check Them!!!!!!!!!
Vinayak_Sharma 09-05-2007, 11:51 AM DirectI (http://www.directi.com)/ResellerClub (http://www.resellerclub.com)is among the top Registrar's across the globe, they have the best pricing table & top notch support.
I am myself using ResellerClub, for many years, to register domains for myself & for reselling them, with ResellerClub you can have resellers under you as well. Best thing is you are not required to pay any setup fee.
You can even testdrive their system before you decide on actually going with them. For Flash & Live Demo visit http://www.resellerclub.com/demo I will advice to create a demo account to become familiar with the system.

What exactly is the difference between resellersclub and directi? Volume?
I read on the resellersclub page, that private registration comes with every domain.
This sounds fantastic - most registrars charge 8$ per domain for privacy registration.
Or am I mixing something up?
wonderpoint 09-05-2007, 02:20 PM I think DirectI is more like the holding company. Like iNET and WHT. I may be wrong though.
I read on the resellersclub page, that private registration comes with every domain.
Yes, whoisID protection is free with every domain. But they charge for domain forwarding, advance DNS support, mail forwarding etc.
Vinayak_Sharma 09-05-2007, 02:21 PM DirectI is the main company, ResellerClub is their Brand.
Private registration is free of cost, you can enable or disable whois privacy any time.
Aorozco 09-05-2007, 04:33 PM Thumbs up for RC, they upgrade your prices as more you use.
Right Hosting 09-05-2007, 09:58 PM Directi are not that great & I have not had a good experience with them at all. For .in I would try domainsite

What is domain forwarding and advanced DNS support, please?
Host Ghost 09-06-2007, 01:36 AM DirectI is the main company, ResellerClub is their Brand.

So you actually have to enable it using the control panel.
What would you think is better to use: DirectI or ResellerClub? Does it depend if you are a bulk buyer or buy fewer domains?
Or are they both the same, working under different labels?
liasion 09-06-2007, 02:22 AM Ok...but then is DirectI or RC whatever is the only registrar rocking...because when i searched regiatrars in India , there were almost 8-9 , so what about others?

Dear Biju,
We are discussing about registrars based in INDIA.....
So NAMECHEAP and ENOM just cant afford to come into the picture.....
As India (Location) is a Pre-requisite here........
So i hope to hear something about the other 8-9 ICANN Accrediated registrars as pointed out by LIASON...............
sanudeep 09-06-2007, 03:13 AM The following i think are registrars in india ..
and i prefer directi - resellerclub
aswerable.com (I) Pvt Ltd
:agree: Directi Internet Solutions d/b/a PublicDomainRegistry.Com
Good Luck Internet Services PVT, LTD.
Lead Networks Domains Pvt. Ltd.
M. G. Infocom Pvt. Ltd. doing business as MindGenies
QuantumPages Technologies Pvt. Ltd. d/b/a OwnRegistrar.com
(http://www.internic.net/registrars/registrar-1250.html)
Visesh Infotecnics Ltd. d/b/a Signdomains.com
(http://www.internic.net/registrars/registrar-249.html)
Web Werks India Pvt. Ltd
Vinayak_Sharma 09-06-2007, 07:44 AM What is domain forwarding and advanced DNS support, please?
Domain Forwarding & Advanced DNS, Like you have domain hosted at one place, email at some other, like you have two domain and 1st one is forwarded to 2nd.
So you actually have to enable it using the control panel.

Whois Privacy or private registration is an option, so if you want it enabled you have to manually enable it, at most of the registrars its a paid option but at ResellerClub you are getting it for free.
See DirectI is the main/holding company ResellerClub is it's White Lable reseller brand, you do not do business with DirectI directly.
If you are planning to buy large number of domains either in bulk or one by one, or you want to resell domains to your clients and want to give them their own domain control panel and additionally you want to signup resellers under you, ResellerClub is the right choice.
If you want to book few domains just for yourself, then http://www.answerable.com is your choice, now Answerable.Com is the retail arm of DirectI
Ok...but then is DirectI or RC whatever is the only registrar rocking...because when i searched regiatrars in India , there were almost 8-9 , so what about others?
Most of the registrar companies in India are either using LogicBoxes (again a DirectI company) as backend and some of them are using their own developed application. But among all these companies DirectI is the best, you can say DirectI is in the category of companies like Enom, Godaddy etc.
Dear Biju,
So i hope to hear something about the other 8-9 ICANN Accrediated registrars as pointed out by LIASON...............
Hope I had answered to your query above.
One company that I would like you to keep away is Net4Domains, real crappy services, poor support. Example: If you want to change name servers of your domain booked with Net4Domains, it will not be changed in realtime, there are so many issues they need to fix before they should have actually launched their services.

Net4domains were resellers of MelbourneIT.com but I am not sure if they are still with them. They were one of the earliest domain registration providers in India.
Vinayak_Sharma 09-06-2007, 01:04 PM Many of their domains are still at MelbourneIT, but resellers or Accredit Registrar Net4Domains are the most pathetic.

If you are asking about reseller account in an Indian based registrar then probably the best choice is Directi's ResellerClub.
Anyways for your information some other big names in retailing domain registration are Rediff, Sify, IndiaTimes, Reliance. I havent done any research into their service quality, accreditation status or the number of domains they have. However in the eyes of the general Indian public they are popularly known.
Directi are not that great & I have not had a good experience with them at all. For .in I would try domainsite
How is domainsite better for .in?
f43fdsaf4f4 09-06-2007, 10:16 PM Are you looking for indian domains or are you looking for a registrar in india?

I also read on this forum that Answerable are ok .in's, although I was skeptical I gave it a go
... Instead of explaining it all here I will just copy & paste what I wrote to their payment company which is also part of Directi:
I recently tried to purchase three domain names from Answerable.com, this was on the 28th of August PST time. I first opened an account with them and then I added $40 US from my credit card to my new account I created. I then purchased the 3 domain names and I was charged 12.99 for each one, a total of 38.97. I then received confirmation of my order and I could login to my account and manage my new domain names. Then on the 31st of August I received an email from Answerable.com that one of my domains had been deleted. I then checked all of my domains and sure enough they had all been deleted from my account and placed back on the domain market. I was horrified to say the least. I then tried to login to my Answerable.com account that I was able to login to 2 days before but now I just got a message that this account is no longer is active.
So I lost my $40 and my domain names, I then re-registered them with another register but Answerable.com still have my $40 US. I tried to call them and politely asked what had happened but they just hanged up on me. I called them back again but they could hardly speak English and I could not even get any sense from them at all. I have emailed them and sent a number of support tickets but they have not responded at all.
Please give me back my money and refund it back to my credit card and let me know the date this will be returned into my bank.
These domains were working (live) and I had made parking pages for them etc until they deleted them...
Now to be fair I did find that I did have messages in my JUNK folder which I logged into but I hardly ever get anything going there that is important as they have a very efficient spam filter so I don't know why the spam filter did not want to process emails from this company but some of them got through.
But that still doesn't matter as they had no right to delete my domain names as I had paid for them and I had understood they were mine now and the emails that had got through to me confirmed this.
So I finally got an answer from them about why they deleted my domains and they said I was a high risk? So I have no idea how they can determine I'm a high risk when I have never had any cc problems in my life, no bad credit etc and I use my credit cards (which are debit cards btw) everyday at other places without these problems like Godaddy, Mydomain, NameCheap etc etc and of course Domainsite where I eventually had to re-register my domains that they deleted.
The really annoying thing here is that as soon as the transaction showed up in my bank account they then deleted my domains so that is really suspicious.
So they eventually told me my funds that they took out of my credit card would be placed back in my account in 10 to 15 days.
so I wrote to them the following:
Please make sure my $40 US is placed back into my account immediately. You have deleted my domain names, deleted my account but have taken the money from me.
How can you deem my transaction as high risk when you have already processed the money and taken it from my account? This is an absolute joke and I have never experienced this ever in my 10 years of buying domain names.
So on what grounds did you decide my transaction was High Risk?
their response:
Our system has an in built algorithm on the basis of which it generates a report giving us a list of transactions it has deemed high risk.
This report is generated only after the transaction is done. Nevertheless, the tranasction gets reversed by the Merchant if they do not receive appropriate proof documents. Accordingly, we have noticed that answerable has reversed this transaction on 1.09.07. Thus, you will receive a credit for the transaction within 7 business days.
So i wrote:
Make sure this money is returned to my account right away. I also want a full explanation from you about this and why you have done this.
and I'm happy to say that the money was returned to my account the next day but what a lot of stress, money spent on phone calls and I actually lost about $3 from the money returned was less, maybe that was exchange rates? I will never use any Directi company again after this frightening experience. The most horrifing thing for me was when I called India to be greeted by people who could hardly speak english, I spent 10 minutes just trying to spell out my domain names so they could understand the letters in them. then I could not understand what they were saying to me as their English was really bad... I then felt hopeless and I started having flash backs to my days calling Registerfly and all the crap I had with them....
I have read similar stuff about Domainsite for retail accounts, I suppose payments through Paypal are the safest.
sastro 09-07-2007, 12:05 AM India is number one IT country in Asia I guess
Right Hosting 09-07-2007, 11:35 AM I'm not a big fan of domainsite either as once their website went down for weeks (from a hacker I herd) and it was a time I had to renew a domain, luckily they got it up just before my domain expired.
I should point out that at least Answerable.com did return my funds but it was a scary experience all the same especially since I had not used them before and I knew little about them. I'm usually pretty fussy about where I use my credit card and this has given me a good wake up call and to be extra careful from now on.
Mikey this way! 09-07-2007, 02:29 PM I use Answerable.com now days for Registering domains coz they are cheap and offer phone support as well. Never used email/ticket based support but called them a few times and they actually did help.
BTW, Answerable is a Directi.

I haven't been on this site long, but I have already read a horror story about almost every registrar.
How can one make sure that one keeps the domain name that one registers?
Your story sounds like someone looking at your domains, thinking "mhm, nice domain names. Guess, I'll take them for myself", and deleted them from your account.
At least I get this idea from following your experience.
After all, a good domain name is a good idea, and ideas are being stolen all the time.
