I am starting my own hosting site.
I already have the hosting, the domain name and the web site being made but i have 2 questions.
1) how do i decide what plans/prices to offer i keep on looking at other peoples sites and have seen so many different ones i dont know where to start.
2) is there a standard TOS people use or do we have to write our own as i wouldnt know where to start?
Any advice would be appreciated

Your price structure should be based on your company and no one else. Company A might own there servers, have 100 people on staff, software licenses, and etc so they will of course charge at a different rate. I'm assuming your on a reseller account paying lets say $15.00/month (not including other fees you may have). You could sell two accounts at $8.00 and you won't have to worry about your reseller account cost anymore. The other people who signup will be your profit. The most important thing in starting a company is to have a plan written out and follow it. Not everything you do will work but it is your responsibility to make it survive.

First off all you should have a plan to hit which type of market segment ... you want to mass sell the plan .. or provide a very highend plans with superior support ... First decide want you have in your mind ... second i totally agree with MattG if you go with reseller plan you just have to worry to sell only 2 account to recover your monthly recurring cost and also include $1 profit ...

The hardest thing for any company is competition in the market. I am constantly looking at specials and normal prices that company A and B might throw out. Yea, they both might be cheaper than me but I know what it takes to provide a dedicated service for my clients which requires a little bit more money. The biggest way to expand your company is word of mouth.

Thanks for all the replys.
Yes i have a small amount of hosting at the moment and my plan is as soon as i get enough people to cover that cost i will then get more space and then when that is covered i will expand again etc, i want to keep on putting the money back into it to expand and eventually get bigger.
Does anyone have the answer to my TOS question?
Thanks

Your TOS should be according to your principles. You need to decide what all needs to be supported and what not. You need to plan that for each and everything, like the nature of things that cab be hosted in the server, cpu/memory resources etc etc.
Any way, if you are using a reseller package, your TOS can be almost same as his.

Since you are a reseller I would ask your host if it's ok to use their TOS as a basis and adjust for any requirements for your own hosting.
After all you and the actions of your clients are ultimately bound by the terms of your host so you need to ensure that the TOS you get your clients to agree to at least covers all that your host expects you to abide by :)

Thats a good point by Kintallon and usually a host won't mind as long as your hosted with them.
