View Full Version : Should I go with ModernBill?
ShoresPC 09-02-2007, 10:13 PM I have been looking into billing solutions and I did the trial of WHMCS but I wasn't sure how to do a couple things and it gave error messages when trying to upgrade/downgrade accounts for some reason. I have been looking into ModernBill but haven't tried the trial yet. Anyone have any problems with MB? I'm using WHM/Cpanel.
PH-Kev 09-02-2007, 10:31 PM No personal experience of the new MB 5 but its been getting some bad press recently due to bugs/poor development etc, not sure if thats all ironed out yet or not.
Id personally say MB bill is a pretty decent billing automation system, its futureproof thats for sure.... it has controls and modules for things i never even knew existed lol
If your planning on a trial, id say try out V5 and dont be put off if you dont like it, trial V4 as well as it's still used by many other hosts because they dont want to upgrade.
Best of luck in what you choose though :)

Did you contact their support department on the errors and confusion part? Matt and crew are ALWAYS very helpful, whether you're a trial user or not.
Put MB (4 and 5) through a trial. If you don't like it don't try it, but don't give up on WHMCS just because of a couple of errors. They DID just put out a new major release (3.3) this week, so undoubtedly there's going to be a few issues. If you're confused about WHMCS, you're REALLY going to be confused about MB, though.
EatingHamIRL 09-03-2007, 02:35 AM My experiences with MB were somewhat confusing. If you can understand how to work it, then its a great system. I tend to like things that are right there and easy to do. IMO MB is like having to walk across a tightrope and whmcs is like walking from one end of the room to the other (VERY easy).

I thought I had seen something about trial members not being able to get support so I just gave up on the errors. However now I cannot find that. It let me get another trial key so I'm going to re-download and try again. I have heard a lot of good things about WHMCS and the fast updates, so I'll give it another chance.
kris1351 09-03-2007, 08:31 AM If you found WHMCS confusing then you should NOT go with Modernbill. It is the most confusing for no reason at all billing solution out there. I would recommend WHMCS or ClientExec if you want simplicity and functionality.

Be fair, try out MB trial as well. You will know the difference between them. :D
And i agree with kris1351, MB is much more complicated.. You going to face more problem with MB if you couldn't handle WHMCS. :)
You can try MB.
If you are going to use MB 4 it's okay
But not MB 5.
Have a look at their forum, make sure you do some research :)
ShoresPC 09-03-2007, 01:10 PM Well I gave WHMCS another try. It's not that I find it confusing, it is just giving me some errors for no obvious reason. I posted over on their forum and Matt responded quickly and I have figured a couple things out. I'm going to keep playing with it, it looks promising.
Netcomm UK 09-04-2007, 05:10 PM MB5 just kept crashing our server with too many queries and other issues. We've moved to WHMCS and it is excellent, so fast and works first time.
WAO-Victor 09-04-2007, 05:44 PM I use WHMCS and it's great. MB was too hard for me to use and the support sucks. Matt from WHMCS responds fairly quickly and usually gets a fix to you unlike MB you have to wait for their next update just to get a fix. MB is also hard on the server, runs slow and once again too confusing to use.
cannibal 09-04-2007, 05:48 PM I suggest try trial first :)
brianoz 09-06-2007, 08:57 AM MB4 was an unmitigated disaster, in terms of usability if nothing else. Hard to use, unreliable, buggy, slow, poorly designed. I'm sure MB5 is better, although I've heard varying reports. But really, just run to WHMCS, it's easier to setup, easier to learn, and has effective support. You can't go wrong.
GO with anyone either MB or WHMCS which is comfortable to you. Support is same in both.

LMFAO! CLEARLY coming from someone who's NEVER tried to contact ModernBill support before.
Have you ANY experience with either software? Or just making things up?
When I used MB4 and very briefly MB5, support was non-existent. I tried several major versions of MB5 throughout the first 6 months of releases too and IMHO they were all nearly identical (didn't notice any real differences). For ModernBill's sake I hope they made some major changes. But in the early first 6 months of MB5 I was not impressed...
Like many I made the switch to WHMCS (not even sure how I found it). It was simple, install was quick, all the features I needed worked and were straight forward... and I was done before I even knew it... ModernWhat?
SLH-Ken 09-07-2007, 01:08 PM We used MB for the first 10 months of operation, and it was a constant headache. Bad support, complicated software etc..
Do yourself a favor, get WHMCS and just enjoy running your business, not trying to make your billing system work.
