I want to transfer my domain name from domain199.com to my own VPS, so that from next billing cycle, my VPS wold take care of everything. Please tell me how to tranfer domain name

Whats wrong with domain199.com because you could have trouble switching your domain to your vps provider.

To transfer, you need to do two things :-

1) At Domain199.com , unlock the domain name and obtain the EPP Code for that domain name.

2) At your VPS, initiate a Domain Name Transfer. You will need to enter the EPP code from Domain199.com to complete the process.

Officially speaking, you do not need to move your domain name to your web host because the domain name can be kept separate. If they are at the same place and if you need to move out of your VPS, it can be very problematic.

Yea, switch it to either some other domain service provider instead of your hosting company.

Well ok i will switch it to other hosting company but tell me how do i do that, unlock domain name and all. Domain199 never ever replied to my emails, neither do they atend any phone calls!

If they are not replying to your email and phone calls then your probably out of luck. Its always best to register domain names under your name at places such as godaddy.com or namecheap.com .

Do a whois (http://whois.domaintools.com) on your domain and see who's the ICANN registrar, and contact it for help. I have a hunch it will be ONLINENIC, INC. If it is, this is their site: http://www.onlinenic.com.
