I had 7 domains registered with Registerfly, and I tried to register an 8th domain. It took my money, but I didn't get the domain. I submitted a ticket about it, and after a week of no response I decided to contact my lawyer. I told registerfly about my lawyers suggestions, and instead of replying to my ticket, or returning my money, they closed my account and took my domains!!! THATS THEFT!!!

Stay away from registerfly. They are too expensive, and they will steal your domains and/or money!!

Do any of you have any idea who I can contact to file a formal complaint about them, and maybe get my domains and/or money back?

Doesn't surprise the folks around here, they've been out of business since March or so.

Try using the search button at top right and enter "registerfly".

Pull up an easy chair, you have a lot of reading to do. You might even figure out where you domains are and who to contact to recover them.

I thought that notice on their web page would give it away, perhaps the site needs to be taken down!

Did you even bother to read the notices on your account and as well as on the main page of RegisterFly?

NOTICE TO CONSUMERS.
THE INTERNET CORPORATION FOR ASSIGNED NAMES AND NUMBERS - THE NON FOR PROFIT ENTITY THAT ADMINISTERS THE INTERNET'S DOMAIN NAME SYSTEM, HAS ISSUED A NOTICE OF TERMINATION OF THIS COMPANY'S ACCREDITATION TO SERVE AS AN INTERNET DOMAIN NAME REGISTRAR. PLEASE SEE WWW.ICANN.ORG FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.

lol I'm sayin...
I think their site should just have the order process not work, as far as the ordering goes. Allot of people still have domains with RegisterFly so that could be a pose to why they didnt shut it down completely yet. Let RegisterFly suffer in shame, RF was a good company or at least for me they were good. Just shows you 1 simple bad move can change everyones life.

Were you in a HOLE when all that went down? There's thousands of these messages all over WHT about their experiences with RFly.

Wait a minute, I don't get it. There's a notice with huge letters on the RF site warning about RF's status. Why are people still registering domains with them?!

Its just waste of time in discussing about a provider who is no more and i still get surprises when people are eventually going to find them. LOL

Even though their domain business is down, isnt their web-hosting business still functional ?

I'm certainly glad all of you find it humorous that I had my domains stolen from me.

I haven't registered any domains with them for awhile, all that I had with them, I have had registered for close to a year. I noticed the post on their site a couple of weeks ago, but it said they were still in business, so I figured I had time to transfer all of my domains. I guess I was wrong.

If you registered the names about a year ago then today they should be under either GoDaddy's or Enom's control. What does a WHOIS say? Registerfly says they are still operating a reseller but I don't know for who.

I don't think that's fair. We are trying to tell you RF will not be of any help to you. If you want your domains, you have some work to do. We spent months trying to recover our domains while international organizations that were to prevent this type of meltdown seemed helpless. Your job will now be easier, just follow the recent posts on how to find who has your domains, and what to do to get them under your control. If you used RF "flyprotect", your domains have no valid administrative contact email address, and you will have to prove you own each domain. You cannot do ANYTHING until your email address is in administrative contact! After that, you can unlock your domains and get your codes.

Renew domains at least one month before expiration so you have time to work thru possible problems. If your domains ended up at Godaddy, you cannot move them for sixty days after almost any change you make to them.

If they are at Enom, the rules are more consistent with the simpler ICANN 60 day no move after new or transfer. You can sign up for a free enom $6.99 reseller account at crucialnames.com or get one from the many members here on WHT. Enom was very helpful to us, but shop around, find someone you like.

You need to get going if you want to save your domains!

We've all been there,
Good luck

-larry

Also, DO NOT use the RF page whois, it is NOT current or correct!!!

I see that Registerfly no longer accept PayPal. Had their account suspended? They now take Moneybookers, CashU & E-Gold. Note that Moneybookers has a no "charge-back" policy so good luck getting a refund thru MB.

Did you pay with a credit card? Do a charge-back via your credit card company.

If your domains ended up at Godaddy, you cannot move them for sixty days after almost any change you make to them.

That is an urban myth perpetuated thru ignorance (no insult intended to you k3rnd). It is only if you change ANYTHING in the Registrant Contact Info that the domain gets locked for 60 days. So you can change the Admin email address and it WILL NOT get locked. So you can then do whatever you want (allowed) with your domain.

Sorry but sympathise with the OP

registerfly's website still has:

2 - We are a reseller of domain names, the same as we have been for 6 years prior, this has not changed. We are NOT OUT OF BUSINESS as the message may imply to some
3 - You can still purchase new domain names or transfer names. If you had a domain name that was part of the bulk transfer please contact your service provider to learn more.

So they still claim to be in business and selling domains.

They're still in the business of taking people's money. They're are still instances being reports of credit card charges and no domains registered or renewed.

They may not be out of business. But they should be.

Yep stay away, I've had nothing but trouble from them since the management scandal broke. Actually the trouble started a few months before that. For example, I had a .co.uk on autorenew, they failed to autorenew it and I had to pay $200 to recover the domain before it got deleted. The sad part is it was their fault and I paid for it. Plus it took almost a dozen helpdesk tickets to get any attention from them. Pretty sad story really.

At the point of "doom", I had apx 200+ domains with RegisterFLY. Apart from the private registration issues, I was happy to see all of my domains sitting in my control panel at godaddy. Do not attempt to talk to Registerfly, as you wont get any response. Speak directly with Godaddy

Well it takes too much to make business a real business.

I still have no idea why they themselves ruined their business.

Registerfly is not going to give up stealing people's money. Why aren't all the principals of this defunct business in jail now? Their site is still up and running and apparantely registering domains. Who is protecting the consumer in this case?

I purchased an SSL through them, I gave them the CSR request, they messed it up then claimed that I had to by a new one to get my ssl. I tried calling them and there phone system kept saying I was 1st in line after waiting about an hour and a half I finally gave up.

The next day I called them same thing.

The day after I got ahold of them and the lady said - well thats wrong i will get it taken care of, at this point I was already pissed and said, I have tried for 4 days to get this resolved and I am just going to take my business else where I just want a refund, after trying to play saves she finally said ok- we will refund your money, till this day I havent see the credit.

My 2 cents worth,
I thought eNom did some kind of customer rescue.
I would contact eNom anyway, they will have some knowledge
of the past/present situation.

meanwhile I'm another that lost money, but before they 'dipped'
when they sold 'odd' domains, which they then stoped supporting, or renewing.

keep away sounds like good advice.
