Ok, I just saw the video, startup.com. I thought it was good. I was glued to my seat. :D

Anyways, does anyone have any good old "dotcom" stories - You know like, you know a guy who ran a dotcom and got X Million bucks, bought 3 wives and a BWM etc... stuff like that...Or maybe you've come through an experience similar etc...

Don't be shy. :)

Don't have any stories for you, but I do agree that Startup.com is a really good documentary. It was interesting to see one company go from rags to riches to rags. Plus, it showed the reality of the business world, where betrayal exists and friendships broken.

I worked for a dot com. I started on like May 4th which was a Tuesday. Got to work - spent the entire day unpacking the aeron chair - setting up my desk - setting up my new dell desktop HUGE monitor - and setting up new sony laptop, all of which was provided by the company of course.

Spent Wednesday and Thursday in meetings, meeting people, discussing company visions - all of that business crap. Came to work friday to find everyone dressed in shorts and such - they were taking us to a baseball game! No work today, so I asked to go home and change (I was wearing slacks, button down shirt and tie) but they said no need and gave me a company credit card to go down stairs to the clothing store (we were in a large office building, downtown... on like the 30th floor - on the street level there was like a Calvin Klein store or something) I graciously went down stairs got some clothes came back up and changed and went to the game having a great time.

By Saturday I'm thinking WOW what a great job. I almost couldn't wait to get to work on Monday. Monday morning rolls around - and I arrive to a note on the door that says essentially everythings over - employees would receive their last paycheck via mail in a couple of weeks. I later found out the guys who started the company had taken a substantial amount of money and fled the country.

Neil; I heard a similair story like that on some tv show. Some guy scammed millions and even ran his scam from a military base by dressing up like a navy admiral with sea crest and all. pretty good con-artists.

lol, navy admiral? That's kind of funny. These guys were.. well, I dunno - I guess in retrospect I should of known that something was up. They were really good. When something's to good to be true, it almost always is. :(

Neil - heh, look on the good side, you got the equivelent of a weekend pissing around, going out and doing cool crap, and on top of that, getting paid for it at the same time.

I would take 3 days off to do that anyday :D :stickout
