Hello,

I'm thinking of starting a web hosting company and focus mainly on e commerce web sites. Do you think that is a good idea or a good niche? thank you

Sounds like a good start to me. If I was you I'd take the time to narrow it down even further though. Just because you're targeting a specific group doesn't mean your services won't appeal to everybody.

Its always good to target a particular niche, I would say go for it and hope for the best.

That would be a great company, I know cube cart has some host specialisation program, some good advertising basically if you install there script enough.

Niche based hosting is probably a good way to go, and if you can offer a few cart options for customers to choose from (basic/intermediate/advanced) it might be a good seller if you cover all bases.

Great idea. Take it one step further and ask yourself what potential clients need that they're not able to get easily elsewhere. That's the nucleus of your marketing plan.

I think such specialized service is good once you acquire good name in market, I would suggest you to focus two or three more sites for providing hosting services since I guess this might be the starting phase as you can not simply say "NO" to the customers those who wish to host their site other than e-commerce.

If I were you... looking back at allll the mistakes i've made :).....

I'd start up a couple hosting sites, with different niches, and host them on the same server. Maybe use one website for a general host, with your billing system on it, as the "main" one, and several other smaller niche hosts that act as if they were partnered with the main hosting site or something....

That way you're more spread out, operating out of different niches, and maximizing your possible sales potential.

Its 3AM though, so see what other people think of my idea before you even consider it :)

It would be a good niche but you'd better be prepared to afford high end server hardware as some of the e-commerce scripts can suck back resources pretty good on busy sites, especially on a shared server.
