I am searching and searching and I cannot find a small reseller account with about 5 GB only _and_ ssh. Knownhost doesn't offer ssh and all the others I found, offer a lot more space. I don't want to pay for something I don't need. But I want to get quality and reliability hopefully for years. My limit is about $15, but better less. One important thing for me is, how long the company is in business.

At your budget I would recommend Innohosting and Dathorn. Not sure any others that will give you 5GB with SSH under $15 that I would recommend.

I heard that some require photo id or deposit to enable SSH access.

You can find quite a lot of hosts within that budget. Don't go for something that you don't really need even if the price is same. Many hosts has started providing shell access, but as PremiumHost said, most ask for some photo id for record.

I don't think getting SSH access is problem, but you will require to submit ID to verify your identity for security reason.. since it could cause security hole or other causes..
