Hi,

I have installed Microsoft Virtual Server (2005 R2).
I'd like to assign a private IP address (and if you know, how multiple?) to a VM.

Is this even possible? I can only find how to assign a MAC address to it.

It surely is possible. You can simply add another network adapter to it and have it linked to the private adapter of the server it is installed on (or the current one, for that matter).

Then just add the private IP address and you'll be good to go.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.
I don't entirly understand what you are trying to say, should I add a network adapter on the host OS (start -> network) and bridge that one to the normal local area connection?
Do I assign the IP I want for the VM to both adapters or just to the new one?

You just have to attach another NIC to the server where your Windows OS can detect the NIC. Thereafter, go to Virtual Server Administrative site to modify the network connectivity to the selected NIC for the individual VM.

So I need an other physical NIC for this?
Thats rather annoying in a 1U case with only one expension bay..

It is because for your that particular VM, you want it to be only accessing the private network therefore wouldn't be touching anything on the external one.

if you wan't exlusive network card, you can do it with only one.
you should create a new virtual nic on your virtual machine.
then log in your vitual machine and add ip to it as you want.
