View Full Version : DV2 or LayerOne?
WoodShedd 07-26-2002, 09:12 PM Recently I have been faced with a challenging decision.
namely, purchase a server from eservers.biz or one that is located at layerone.
They are both essentially the same price, but the layerone server is a better overall server, but has less bandwidth (Cogent only)
Or I could go eservers.biz. more transfer, less powerful server but non cogent.
help...
RackMy.com 07-26-2002, 09:16 PM Are you limited to only those 2?
WoodShedd 07-26-2002, 09:24 PM At the moment the only independent offer I am considering is at layerone, and eservers.biz is a host I am interested in buying from.
There are lots of good hosts there:
webreseller.net (Yipes, ...)
prioritycolocations (Cognet)
serveroutsource.net
saburovo.com (Rackshack servers with better support)
fastservers.net
and many others
You are not limmited to those. By the way DV2 does not have servers available now.

WoodShedd 07-26-2002, 11:19 PM I am aware that there is a wide variety of companies offering dedicated servers. I have looked at most all of them, and have narrowed my selection down to DV2 and LayerOne.
Unless someone comes up with a better offer than I have recieved from either one of the above then then that is what I am limited.
eservers.biz will have servers some time within the next week
RackMy.com 07-26-2002, 11:45 PM You really cannot compare DV2 to LayerOne. They are completely different as LayerOne does not provide bandwidth. They are mainly a Telco cross connect company with connected datacenter floor space. DV2 has connectivity.
WoodShedd 07-27-2002, 01:12 AM I'll rephrase my question.
In your opinion would a more powerful server with less bandwidth (albeit cogent) be more desireable or less desireable than a not as powerful server with 100GB more bandwidth located at DV2?
thanks
RackMy.com 07-27-2002, 08:58 AM That's a good one. If the "LayerOne" solutions is only Cogent, I would probably go with DV2?? Both not great choices, but good luck!

Have you tried Layerone or DV2/eServers ?
I can vouch for both as i use them and until you've tried them, please refrain from unprofessional speculation.....
Have a nice evening....

Tetraboy 07-27-2002, 04:55 PM Maybe he's referring to the fact the layerone was cogent only, which is bad IMHO. Out of the two I'd say dv2 might be better because they have 2 internet connections( IMHO ) which gives you some redundancy.
cabalstudios 07-27-2002, 04:59 PM If you have a look he has clearly said "Both not great choices" ...
He was not referring to Layerone alone; but both of us...
Tetraboy 07-27-2002, 05:04 PM Yeah I noticed but I don't know why. A lot of hosts seem to like DV2. From my research alot of bw goes through cogent/netrail and there are some slow ping times but I hope this will be corrected when DV2 adds another provider.
TimPD 07-27-2002, 05:04 PM Dv2 then LOL.
Tetraboy 07-27-2002, 05:07 PM Anyreason to take a singlehomed cogent connection at layerone than multihomed dv2?
phantasywork 07-27-2002, 05:39 PM I guess if you dont mind waiting forever for a DV2 server then choose them
BurtonHost 07-27-2002, 05:44 PM Sailor replied saying that their order system is playing up - they have servers in stock apparently.
AL-Benjamin 07-27-2002, 05:46 PM i have a server a both. no downtime on either, and the ping speeds are roughly the same.
tho i don't have cogent connections. (thank god)
RackMy.com 07-27-2002, 05:54 PM Have you tried Layerone or DV2/eServers ? I am expressing my opinion from what I have heard from customers and what has been read on this board. BTW, yes I have tried LayerOne before.
i've got an eservers.biz server at dv2 - and I simply love it. Both VERY quality companys!

Where have you seen post that are negitive to DV2? I have seen nothing but positive post for DV2.
WildWayz 07-28-2002, 01:44 AM The only negative ones about DV2 are ones about it taking a long time to get a server setup.
I have 2 servers with eservers - 1st one was setup the same day, 2nd one was setup in a week or two because they were waiting for the dual proccies to come in.
Once I got them, I love them!
