Forget software wise.

Which computer is better hardware wise...

hardware wise i would have to say the pc. the one thing i loved about the mac was that it doesn't heat up a room like a pc. nowwhy can't a pc hardware do that? i guess you can't have it all.

Macs, by far, but it really depends on your needs. i prefer Macs because they allow me to do my work faster, more effectively, and I like the way they look. I use PC's as well because most customers and poeple i work with use them, so I need to be familiar with the pitfalls of using PC's and Windows. I must say, though, that XP is pretty good, but no match for a Mac.:)

"Better hardware" is a broad term. Are you speaking about quality, speed, or what? CPU - x86 vs. PPC? This is like comparing two different size speakers. The larger of the two doesn't neccesarilly equate to better quality. Under the hood, x86 has more power and a faster chip persay - but everything outside in hardware is clearly won by Apple's design.

By the way, I own and use both platforms on a daily basis. I only tell you is because last time we had a PC vs. Mac thread not long ago - people with no experience on macs/vice versa pretty much bashed the other one, heh.

Well I am not asking for bashing.

I am simply asking which hardware is better.

I.E.:
(Faster)
(More Reliable)
(Last Longer)

ETC...

Regards.

since you brought it in those terms. i still feel that the pc got it covered still.

please don't think i'm bashing the mac, i have experience with both platforms. my experience tells me that the mac is not that faster nor that reliable. it is really unstable. but, i couldn't say about the newer ones cause of my lack of experience in those. last longer? i don't know cause i tend to rebuild a new and faster one every year and a half to keep up with the new software that needs more ram and such.

the way i read your question was which had better hardware in the sense of options. i tell you one thing, those macs do look pretty.

The only experience I have with Macs are the 10 year old ones with the 20 mhz Motorola 68000 processors in them (BTW: That's the same processor I have in my calculator... ), as that is about what our school thinks is 'up to date' equipment.

I use all PCs at home, so I can't really be a judge. I know that both architectures are good.

"IBM compatible"... I haven't heard that term for a long time... brings back memories of the old Tandy 386 :)

Ah, the fun times we have!:D

Win 95? Win 98? Yikes!! Even my new XP machine crashes more than my 2 and 3 year old Macs.

mac - take a look inside a mac, then take a look inside a pc - you'll see what I mean.

ROFL

I am glad I was able to bring back old memories.. ;)

I was just curious. I have never used a Mac. Well except one time at school. I ran into this guy the other day trying to tell me how much better the hardware was in Mac etc. Just thought I was ask..

Just go to your local apple store or compuserve and play with it for a while. For most people, that's all it takes. Have fun!

Our local Apple store is about 10 mins walk from here. You go in there to have a look at them and the guy behind the counter just stares at your.

Makes me feel really uncomfortable. I went in there to check out some things I was thinking of buying, he stared, so I went to the computer superstore next door (which only deals in PCs).

Aesthetically - I like Macs better - I just wish they made their new iMac with an intel processor - if they did I would have already bought one.

Hardware wise - I rather PCs. Although some of the newer Macs (G4, etc) were technically classified as supercomputers, I sitll rather PC hardware.

Software wise - I rather Windows or Linux. I find the MacOS software a bit strange to navigate - and the one button design of their mice really annoys me.

I've got a Macintosh LC475 (note: old 68k machine :D) - but I haven't used it for about six months.

I don't understand. What does the fact that my PC has a strobe light have to do with it? :D
