View Full Version : How many use MailFoundry w/ cPanel?

We've recently implemented MailFoundry w/ cPanel on our Namecheap brand. It works fabulously, allows us to turn off SpamAssassin/RBLs, and eliminates nearly every single piece of spam.

Anyone else use the MF with cPanel? Any tips?

I've found so far:

1) Disable Sender Verify Callout - otherwise, at times, the MF can reject legit email addresses.
2) Disable RBLs/SpamAssassin - load reasons
3) Increase smtp_max_accept to at least 125 - This is very important, by default it's like 20, and since all SMTP Connections will now come from one IP, if you don't increase it you will have problems.

Anything else? We of course use the auto-domains feature.

Do you think the MF recommended user numbers are accurate for shared hosting (cpanel) type usage?

Do you think the MF outbound scanning has any value?

Hi,

Sorry to bump an old thread but I think it will serve well as a guide for others wanting to use mailfoundry with cpanel servers.

I'm installing a mailfoundry box at the weekend.

Thanks to nickn for the pointers. Did you come across anything else you had to change ?

Did you ask your customers to update their own MX records or did you do them on mass ? I've found a way of doing them all at the same time.

I have a script that will run against /var/named on the cpanel dns servers and only update the mx records if the domain is currently using the cpanel server for mail. It will ignore mx records that are set to external hostnames. If I get everything working correctly I will happily post the info here to help others.

For others visiting this thread - note that smtp_max_accept should actually be smtp_accept_max. The default is 100 in exim.conf.

Are you finding any problems using the "auto domains" feature and customers who have catch-all mailboxes ? Mailfoundry warned me that the server should be cleared of all catch-all mailboxes if using that option. I've ignored that advice so far because it is impractical

If anyone has any further advice on using mailfoundry with cpanel servers, I'd be grateful to hear it.

Sorry to open such an old thread, but I'm looking exactly for such a script to modify my dns zonefiles for a mailfoundry. Can someone share such a script?
