For a year of hosting it's actually the following (from their website):

$1.00 per month based on 1 year pre-payment plus a one time $49.00 lifetime membership fee.
Example:
1st year total cost, $12 hosting fee plus the one time $49.00 membership fee = $61.00
Each year after your total cost only $12.00 per year!!!

An average plan with those features is between $60-80 a year.

So:
they have hosting for $1
others do it for $5-10

They sound like a *much* better deal, but at the end of the day it's less of a difference than what it appears. At a guess they are playing the numbers that a churn rate happens so people leave within the year (maybe provide bad service?) That's just a guess by the way and in no way reflects their possible real service.

The 'unlimited' space and hosting gets enough airplay here so I won't even go into that beyond, it's probably another case of playing the numbers.

In the end it's a good ad strategy but not very effective in the long term financially. If most hosts decided to do a $1-2 a month hosting special plan but made people pay up front for a year with a 'membership fee' we'd all be able to offer a deal like this. As they don't offer a refund for a years hosting it's a good way to get them in, p*ss them off, and keep the money.

Again, maybe they are being the 'Good Guys' the promote being - I don't want to make it look like they are being underhanded. I try to look at things from a crooks point of view when something seems too good to be true. :)

It seems like another churn and burn scheme for cheapskates and suckers. Advertise $1 a month that isn't a $1 a month and get their money. Charge a membership fee that's your real profit. Membership fee? What is this , Price Club or Costco hosting?

Be sure to include unlimited trasnfer. the suckers, er customers, will really be impressed (hooked and reeled in) by that "great" deal.

It's a lower ticket variation of the scheme some companies use for lifetime hosting for an upfront payment of $299 - $300 dollars.

On all cases, it's the lifetime of the company, not your lifetime, they are talking about.

It would be better to just throw the money away. At least that way, you don't have the aggravation that will surely ensue.

Or give it to charity and accomplish something worthwhile with it.

their ad strategy is to pay over 2$ per click through on GoTo, so I don`t think this company will last very long :)
