I don't need anyone at the time but without more information it is hard to answer your first question.

Back to "how do I start"

Ideas: You could make templates and sell them via shopping cart or find a company who will pay you to make template for them.

Go to google or yahoo then search up sites that sell web page templates and see if they are hiring. Look for a job opportunity link then send in your resume or what ever they ask for.

Not everyone hires but I sure some company take resumes.

You might also hit monster.com and search telecommunute jobs.

And you can bid on jobs at freelance places like guru and other places like that. There are several places that you can put in a need for a workers and people like yourself bid on jobs. I have no had very good luck finding good working on those sites but I have used them from time to time for small jobs.

I've had some success at rentacoder.com for some well paying projects. Some similar sites may provide you with some work, provided that you have a specialty. Specialization is really the key.

If you are OK with design, make layouts and sites. If you have some sites, get a reseller account and sell some hosting too (many design clients will require hosting too). Have some sites and sell advertising. Making money online is possible. You need to work a lot though. The beginning is slow and painful, but in some time you'll make it ;)

If you are proficient in web designing, you can start as a freelancer or be a professional in that field.

If I may venture to suggest, it might be helpful, when seeking business, to take the time to present oneself in an intelligent manner.

Specifically, it might be time to dump the cutsey-kiddie chat-speak patois, and rediscover the joys of capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and grammer.

Just my opinion; I could be wrong, of course....

Well said Staple,
Some usefull links on previous page too.

But if you really want to make money Karmahost,
Stick to one category, dont try to code aswell as slicing psd files and hosting majorly, youll wear yourself out.
Stick to one category, become a pro and start earning some cash.

You'll have to be able to show what you're capable of by providing a (small) portfolio to start with. If you're just starting, you might have to do some work at low cost or free, just to get it rolling and build up your portfolio.

Once you have some nice designs in your portfolio and advertise a bit (or if you're active on sites like WHT) then sooner or later people will contact you about design work.

That is a very good point about free work. To this day I still do free work at time for schools, churches or charities who need brochures or flyers designed. Then in exchange I put a nice little advertisement for web site on the brochure or flyer. Then they can print as need.

Of course if it is a grade school play (or something similar) the parent will keep the flyer and probably show ever other family member and who knows who might see my advertisement.

Got to get an ad in where every you can!!
