View Full Version : anyone else find cpanel 11 sucks?
daveredfern 08-22-2007, 04:22 PM hey,
I have had cpanel 11 on my server for a week or so now and i have had nothing but trouble with it crashing cpanel so no one can access the mail or control panel, databases going down and the list goes on...
just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this.
i was fine with cpanel 10 and definitely reverting back!
cywkevin 08-22-2007, 04:29 PM From my experience, upgrading can be a disaster but a fresh install works very well. I don't think you can revert to 10 now that 11 is in the stable tree.

If you are experiencing such major issues due to the upgrade to cPanel 11, please submit a ticket directly to cPanel. Our tech support policies are a little more relaxed during release periods and the support staff will be able to assist you.

Correct, with version 11 now in STABLE there is no means by which to revert to version 10. Only the latest version of each build of cPanel/WHM is available for download. There are no longer any builds still in version 10.
mrzippy 08-22-2007, 07:30 PM We have had no major problems with cpanel 11.
okihost 08-22-2007, 10:36 PM A small bug here and there but the cPanel team has been great in helping with all of them.
TomorrowHosting 08-23-2007, 05:16 PM I had a lot of big problems when upgrading (on a free host though; so it had many more users). Some functions (namely Frontpage Extensions) still don't work, and we had a time where all domain related functions handled by cPanel (domains, subdomains, emails, etc.) all completely crashed within cPanel. In addition MySQL databases wouldn't be created (cPanel would give a success message, but nothing would happen); and all current databases become invisible for a while.
The cPanel support fixed up most of it, but FrontPage still doesn't work. But I can live with that for now (since it is a free host).
SLH-Ken 08-23-2007, 05:43 PM CPanel 11 is a improvement IMO. Things are a bit cleaner, and even though there are some bugs still, they get resolved quickly and the thing is speedy and stable...well as stable as any other CPanel release...
Vinayak_Sharma 08-23-2007, 05:44 PM We have faced no problems with cPanel 11 upgrade (no fresh installs), things are moving smooth.
Dougy 08-23-2007, 07:29 PM cPanel sucks *coughcough*.
Its things like this this that make me favor DA.

Nice well researched post, well done.
Mxhub 08-24-2007, 07:42 AM I find cpanel 11 pretty nice. Lot of ajax effect. Nice interface too.
TonyB 08-24-2007, 09:02 AM Had no problems upgrading over 10 servers to cPanel 11 all with various configurations.
The one disapointment for me is with all the ajaxy features the ip address changing is still as poorly done as ever. It's not fun not being able to select all resellers, all from a specific package ect. Then from there set the IP once opposed to donig it for every account creating major amounts of clicking. This all with the feature request for improvements to this part of WHM over 2 years ago. You'd think more people would want this improved or cared but I'm thinking I'm the only one who finds the current interface stupid.
cpanel 11 has been pretty good for us as well.
my only problem with cpanel now is the hooks - they seem to have chosen random functions to do make hooks for - skipping some of the important ones.
Shakehost-Chris 08-27-2007, 10:45 PM Did you make sure and and do perl upgrades threw ssh and the mail upgrade that could cause some problems there.. I love cpanel 11 works fine for me the upgrade went smooth ...
siforek 08-27-2007, 11:17 PM I had no promlems, not 1, which was a surprise. I especially like the new file manager and "code edit" functions. Good job cpanel :)
BurakUeda 08-28-2007, 12:57 AM Using it since it was in CURRENT tree, and had no cPanel related problems.
linux-tech 08-28-2007, 08:23 AM CP 11 is a bit tricky, but it's not bad. They put a great deal of security enhancements into place here which is GOOD.
I've been using CP 11 for quite some time and have yet to run into any major issues. Sure, there's the occasional problem, but you're going to get that ANYWHERE. I don't care WHERE you go, you're ALWAYS going to see issues!
Cpanel is a great product, and they LISTEN to their customers, vendors, and the people they SHOULD be listening to, instead of ignoring them like most do.
Agranoz 08-28-2007, 10:17 AM well cpanel 11 is considered to be the best hosting panel out there, for the time i worked with it, there weere no problems.
James Peter 08-28-2007, 12:10 PM yes its true. cPanel 11 Has lot of Security And i must say Its Lot Better than cPanel 10.
James!
Patrick 08-28-2007, 12:24 PM well cpanel 11 is considered to be the best hosting panel out there...
By whom? ...
cPanel may be the most popular, but I wouldn't go as far as saying it's the end-all best of everything control panel. :)
w00ts!te 08-28-2007, 04:05 PM cPanel 11 has been working fantastic for us but there is only one problem we have and it is that the new file manager doesn't update changes. You have to close it an reopen is to view them. Tested on multiple servers and computer.

What precisely do you mean by "doesn't update changes?"
Dataweb 08-28-2007, 04:14 PM I lease a dedicated server from interserver.net. It was running CP v10 and John at Interserver just upgraded me to v11. There were ZERO problems and it's been running great for about a month or so now.
stemman 08-28-2007, 09:23 PM I've heard that it is a good product that is from everybody who has done a fresh install as well.

I would say the problem is with the X3 Theme rather than v11.
We have a Server using v11 RELEASE with Bluelagoon and using File Mgr. to edit files works with no problems.
TP_MoonStar 08-29-2007, 01:34 PM As someone said on this topic, upgrading from 10 to 11 can be a pain in the *** and a big problem as well.
A fresh CP 11 install would work just fine :) you should try it
