View Full Version : Design a logo, get 1,000,000 free impressions
AndyP 07-26-2002, 01:08 AM Hey everyone -- I'm starting up a new hosting/design company called SingletonPowell (I'm Andy Powell). I happen to also own a large site called www.dumblaws.com, where I have lots of spare advertising.
My company needs a logo, and I've seen some impressive work here. Submit your logos for consideration, and my partner and I will select our favorite. The winner gets 1,000,000 ad impressions to promote the site of their choice (as long as it isn't illegal, pornographic, etc). At the current market rate, this is worth approximately $400.
Check out the preliminary design for our website here:
http://www.thedumb.com/singletonpowell/
That should give you an idea of the look we're going for. I'll select the winner on Wednesday, July 31st.
I can't wait to see the entries!
DoobyWho 07-26-2002, 01:19 AM ill take the $400 instead.
and your giving a whole month? heh.
AndyP 07-26-2002, 01:20 AM Ack -- not August 31st. I meant July 31st. I'll edit the post above.
Sorry, I can't give you the $400. But you can win the 1,000,000 impressions. :)
AndyP 07-26-2002, 01:24 AM Another note:
On my site, you'll see the tagline "Keeping your company in the fast lane". I'd rather that not be included in the logo -- I need to be able to print the logo on business cards and stationary and such, and so that text is best left omitted because it'll never come through clearly.
Thanks!
DoobyWho 07-26-2002, 01:35 AM You'll get more entries and a higher possibility of finding the logo you want if you offer a cash prize. Just a suggestion.
AndyP 07-26-2002, 01:37 AM So far we've only given it 27 minutes. :) I'm willing to give it a bit more time.
ZzPcPzZ 07-26-2002, 02:07 AM me edits it to match the real one. thanks
DoobyWho 07-26-2002, 02:09 AM ZzPCPzZ - he wants a logo for SingletonPowell.
Chang Lee 07-26-2002, 05:31 AM you may also want to consider reducing the font size in your homepage's header and also in your navigation pane on the left. your page will look at lot better then.
hope that helps improve the look of your website.
warm regards ~
SimonMc 07-26-2002, 09:57 AM Hi,
The prize sounds great.
Here is my entry:

Simon
AndyP 07-26-2002, 10:15 AM Chang Lee -- thanks for the suggestion. That was actually something we had been considering, so I'll give it a try.
ZzPcPzZ 07-26-2002, 02:58 PM okey dokey, here is my revised submition.
DoobyWho 07-26-2002, 03:48 PM ZzPcPzZ - Not bad not bad, however i would refrain from using 2 diferant shades of blue and red on the arrows.
ZzPcPzZ 07-26-2002, 05:20 PM anything is changeable :D
Jonny 07-27-2002, 07:01 AM How's this tickle your fancy? I can do some colour variations, though I did try it in green and red and it didn't look too hot.
Jonny 07-27-2002, 07:04 AM Here's the same thing with a more summery 'feel' to it.
Jonny 07-27-2002, 07:14 AM Looking at those again, the gradient needs tidying up a little but they should give you a rough idea.
AndyP 07-27-2002, 10:20 AM The entries are looking good -- keep 'em coming!
I can't wait to see all the choices I'll have in a couple days.
DoobyWho 07-27-2002, 11:27 AM hehe, theres that swoosh and ball they were talking about. 67% of logos have em ;-P
Jonny 07-28-2002, 05:30 AM Yeah... you got a little ball in your Dash interactive logo.
http://www.dashinteractive.net/top1.jpg
Nice little image though. Did you place that 'mountain' image over the water or was it already part of the original photo? Nice effect you got going...good job!
DoobyWho 07-28-2002, 10:48 AM Thanks jonny, the mountain and water are the same image. I created the image in lightwave..
As far as the logo goes, the 2 balls are there just for looks. I basically took my old logo, added another ball and spelt out the rest of dash interactive. the logo we had when we first started was http://home.satx.rr.com/dashinc/dashlogo_1b.jpg . and the ball was part of the verticat portion of the "D" , which was used as an "I" , for interactive.
DoobyWho 07-28-2002, 10:51 AM as far as the logo for this competition that you designed goes. Logos that are going to be used for branding and the likes (business cards, print media, etc) shouldnt have any type of effects (drop shadows, gradients, etc).
Jonny 07-28-2002, 05:37 PM Out of interest, what is the font used on your splash page?
With regards to gradients etc. I've often used them in the past and have never had any problems/complaints when it comes to printing. If AndyP has an problems, I can always alter it to something which does not use any of the 'rogue' filters. :)
DoobyWho 07-29-2002, 01:03 AM The font is "04b_21" , heh. Its a microfont.
As regards to the gradients, most printers *companies that print business cards and shirts and stuff* , most of them dont suggest you use gradients in logos. you can use them, but they dont suggest it.
