View Full Version : Question about Dixiesys payment policies

Looking at Dixiesys as my next hosting company after the bad experience with CW. Anyway, was reading their payment policy:

Terms of Payment A credit card User agrees to allow "Dixie Internet" to bill his or her card on each successive billing date without obtaining User's permission after the initial charge. A credit card User shall notify Dixie Internet of any changes in credit card number or expiration date. If the card is not honored for any reason, Dixie Internet will attempt to notify the card holder by using the telephone information given at sign-up or by E-mail. Dixie Internet will call the card holder, and if alternative billing has not been established, the account will be terminated. Restoring the account will be subject to a setup fee of $10.00.

I was going to sign up for one month to see how they do but I certainly don't want to keep getting charged if I decide to go with someone else. Anyone have experience with them and especially their payment policy?

Thanks!! BTW...nice site.

Just about every host out there has recurring billing. If you want to work your way around this, try contacting them.

All they're telling you is if you sign up, they'll charge your credit card on a monthly basis, terminate you if your card fails after all reasonable attempts are made to contact you, and not ask permission of you directly every time your fees are due. All common processes, and nothing you should be worried about.

scsi_guru, when you want to cancel, inform them and if they are a decent host they should stop the recurring charge.

They charge you monthly until you cancel. This is a standard method.

They also offer PayPal, and i don't think PayPal is recurring billing,
recurring billing may only be if you use there merchant account?
Please correct me if i'm wrong, as i have started using dixiesys

Nope, PayPal can be recurring. It just depends on how things are setup.

I believe that Gary asks for a paypal subscription which is recurring.

You cancel, we quit charging, billing is recurring, at 3.95 a month we don't have a budget for "collections" if it ain't recurring it's too much trouble :D

We use 2checkout and Paypal for recurring if we don't cancel you in a timely manner they sure will so you don't have any worry.

Gary...thanks! I'm going to give your company a try. I'm heading there now to transfer my domain. How much time to set up my account??

Probably less than 24 hours :)

Normally it is, we had to put a few folks off for nearly 33 hours or so this week while we built some new servers, we're getting slammed thanks to the July sale and other stuff. Everyone was very patient about the wait time and we're filling up the new servers nicely, I'm ordering 2 more next week, early next week, we're already at 1/4 capacity on the new servers.

scsi_guru can tell or not tell how long it took him to get setup :D

Yea...super turnaround time..about 15 minutes after I signed up got the email with the DNS settings and everything else. How long before domain propogation is finished? Already changed the DNS through my registrar.

3.95 2 for one special?

Thats $3.95 for 2 accounts..

I think you will get very tired of the support emails you are recieving all day within 4-8 months and very little margin to work with.

Unless you love repetitive work, I Really do think you will get tired of that many support emails quick.

* just a drive by note *

Oh it's VERY safe to say this is the last 2 for 1 we'll ever do at least a month long 2 for 1.

As for margins, well I think my margins are my business but I will say this, my bills are paid and if I don't sign up another customer next month, I'll be able to pay my bills next month too. I don't need to use next month's money to pay last month's bills.

And I get to stay home all day with my son and work in my shorts and a wife beater, there's things other than "margins" I am concerned with, but let's just say my margins are quite allright :D

As for repetitive, how are the tickets I see any MORE repetitive than say, the tickets a host who charges $30 a month sees? "How do I check my email?" etc it's all the same, besides I have folks who handle 90% of the tickets that come in and I handle the ones they don't/can't handle.

It feels a lot less repetitive when a customer is paying you at least $10+

thats for sure :)

Soon you will be going.. that damn $3.95 account is bothering me again.. yes soon :) Its all good now because your in the mood but after a few months of answering 10 questions to a $3.95 account, you will get pissed at it hehe!

You'll be playing with your kids and then a $3.95 calls you up and asks you how to design his web page and if he can send you a disk for you to upload it for him , you'll be pissed then :)

but if it was a $20 account, that would be acceptable!

I am sure that most the questions answered in the forums by us $20 dollar guys offsets some of it, not to mention if someone uses the forum search or helpdesk they can most likely answer there own question (which I am sure is the case with most hosts).

And Gary you wear "wife beaters" thats it! I am finding a new host! ;)

Ahaha you think I just fell off the turnip truck yesterday?

I'm quite happy with how it is all working out and we're creeping up on the 1 year mark since I started. 14 web servers, 3000 customers, 5000 web sites, and nearly 100K in sales later, I'm so damned pleased with how it's working out and my income from this that I go to bed smiling every night, even after some $3.95 calls up unable to check mail at 1am only to find it's because he's using his Plesk login and not his mailbox name.

I'm sorry if the fact that I'm not gonna be a millionaire anytime soon bothers you, frankly it don't bother me a bit. Not knowing which muppet is my kid's favorite now that would bother me.

You eat the caviar I'll have my Whopper and Large Fries, it's all good.
