Stay away from unlimited bandwidth and space.

It simply does not and cannot exist.

Just out of curiousity, how much are you looking at spending?

I will provide this for the low, one-time fee of unlimited dollars. Aim for a little realism in your posts. Look at your computer, ask yourself if CompUSA or BestBuy will offer you an "Unlimited Hard Drive". If your answer is yes pack the machine up and return to sender.

Sincerely,

-Matt

How big are those unlimited drives anyways? How big are the bottles with unlimited water? How big are the plates with unlimited fries? Fact is, there are no drives available with unlimited space. How can you expect any host to offer it?

Some would argue there is no unlimited anything - *including* domains!

You could argue forever on that i guess. There are quite a few threads around on the topic if you do a search.

Agreed. I am well aware. I just thought it was funny making fun of one unlimited thing, but offering unlimited other things. Maybe it was just me.

yeah, how could you get unlimited anyways, if the server has a 40gig drive, hey, theres a limit. Unless the person is just going to keep buying you new hard drives everytime you fill them up, for no cost :-P then i guess it could be unlimited :stickout

Hey, it is somewhat possible if the guy pays for the reasources as he uses them and splits his site up on different servers. Of course it is unlikely to be done on a shared hosting server, you will need a dedicated, and quite a few at that.

Well Mr B Gates has got unlimited Money.
Most newbies have got unlimited Expectations.
All I can find that's unlimited is ... Dodgy Web Hosts.
and faulty software. (yes there is good hosts as well)

Question:. "How long is a piece of string?"
Answer: Twice the length it was when folded in half.

Doc.

P.S. Have absolutely no idea what my question has got to do with the subject at hand.

Ummm.... guys.... I think we're being overserious here. You think he's for real? Besides the obvious, who in the world would ever ask for unlimited space but a measly 2 gigs of bandwidth? :D

I see that this is turning into a unlimited discussion.

I just wanted to pass this.

I knew this girl on a another message board, she also had a messageboard herself, but she was with a host that gave her unlimited bandwidth and unlimited space (yeah right) she was paying $9.95 pe month.

In short they shut her down, (her board was big)

She asked me what I could offer her, so I gave her some specs but it was $14.95 per month.

Her comment was why can't it be unlimited. I asked her, what you want me to give you my whole server for $14.95 per month?

She said, well I am paying more money and getting less space and bandwidth than what I got for the host that shut me down.

 (They shut her down, so she did not get what she paid for)

I finally got through to her that they were a scam.

If you had a male hard drive and a female hard drive then would it be possible to have unlimited hard drive space :D

Hmm... I thought it was 64 charcters for a domain, including the extention...

<sarcasm>
Perhaps the wat to create an "unlimted" harddrive would be to have a rotating "disk" that spins at such a high speed, where its "surface" is between the time/space "fabric". As data is written, its arranged as atomic molecules which can be read. (I'm making this up as I go  ) The only limit to this would be the limites of time and space, which is currently unknown ;)
</sarcasm>

I could prolly make it sound more realistic if I actually thought about it, but I dont feel like it :stickout

You know that on most White Box servers use standard mother boards and that means you can only run 4 hard drives correct?

:D

Thats what pci slots are good for :D.

I dont know about harddrives, but i got my crickets to breed! :D

Maybe all i need is some topsoil, mature servers, a little bit of water in a sprayer, and some ground up cat food to make our servers do the same... I wonder what capacity the baby servers would have! :D

Ahh, that's where they get you. You can have unlimited space but not unlimited case. Check the terms

No such thing in life as unlimited. Please specify a limit to your requierments for space and bandwidth and then we can help you.

Unlimited is a false way of selling space and bandwidth and I would advise you to stay away from hosts that offer such deals.

Brian James

I am going to go back to my original crazy theory... IF THERE IS NO UNLIMITED HARD DRIVE THERE IS NO UNLIMITED DATA TO PUT ONTO THAT UNLIMITED HARD DRIVE, therefore, that hard drive/bandwidth could never be fully filled/utilized. Until there is unlimited data there is never going to be unlimited hard drives or bandiwdth. So to answer the question, can it be provided? Yes, since you cannot fill an unlimited hard drive/utilize an unlimited pipe, obviously it is possible to provide. Is there anyway to make a profit providing unlimited data transfer/space? HELL NO! :)

According to O'Reilly's DNS and Bind, page 12, domain names can be up to 63 characters long.

Not that I would read any geeky stuff like that though, or even own a copy of it.

Speaking of crickets, there's a couple on the cover.

I guess it's just human nature to try and get unlimited everything. He did ask for streaming, so I'm wondering how far will 2Gb of transfer take him...

Anyway, most newbies tend to look for unlimited when all the usually end up doing with their unlimited is to host a few small sites that barely gets hits, so they usually don't hit the "unlimited" mark. Unless they start doing a mass online file storage, which I pretty much visualise seeing for this guys... ;)

Literally a server farm!!!

You better be careful with the servers that you breed, if you keep breeding the same family of servers (in-breeding), they may actually get slower and smaller. Are there any laws against server in-breeding?

Of course, if you ever do create the unlimited server you could always put it out to stud and charge outrages fees for it's breeding services.

You could make a script loop and write the contents over and over ...but thats another story ;) The drive would run out of space before the script stops looping.

Ahhh, but then we would have to can him for using too much of the server resources with the script.:)
