This has nothing to do with web hosting, but it is a kind of hosting. Does anyone know how much bandwidth a Counter-Strike 32 person public server would use a month? Thanks!

GsAlliance 07-25-2002, 02:55 PM Hey, Well my ive been running cs tfc servers for about 2 years now one of my 20 players once used 120 gigs per month. But a 32 player server can use almost twice as much as taht friends have reported some of them using upwards of 300 gigs a month. It all depends it its pub or priv. I would say its 4k per player but that estimate goes out the window after about 16 players because more packets must be transfered. Have you considered renting a server from a company? If so gimme a pm and ill hook you up with a good company that ive done buisness with for a while. It might just be cheaper and easier. Also it will probly perform better. -Bryan Furlong dbbrock1 07-25-2002, 03:02 PM Well i was thinking about making a game hosting company after i break even on the hosting company. But after hearing it will use 300 gigs that basically destroyed that idea :P GsAlliance 07-25-2002, 03:11 PM Hey instant message me on AOL :datshrink Maybe i can explain it a little better ... =D PhoenixCIS 07-25-2002, 10:50 PM i've run many a game server. it would be easy and affordable if you could use cogent, but the pings just wont allow it. you need multihomed bandwidth for game servers. its at least 200 bux a megabit for good enuf bandwidth. to give you an idea, you can run roughly 3 14-16 person servers per megabit. also, counterstrike specifically is really really really cpu intensive. you need really killer servers to run more than 2-3 per box. Radix 07-25-2002, 11:08 PM Since we are on this topic anyone know of a game server reseller or anything like that? Im not going to do it Im just curious PhoenixCIS 07-27-2002, 06:09 PM I know several. I was once a host of gaming servers, but there were so many offering it so cheap it just lost its profit. Here are a couple: http://www.artofwarcentral.com/ http://www.apexsun.com/ I know the owners of apex sun and have always had an easy time dealing with them. Really you will be buying service, because both companies as well as several others have started using Netfire for bandwidth. AOWC has servers in Netfire datacenters across the country and apex will soon have nationwide support. Netfire uses Qwest, C&W, and Internap. Apex currently is hosted out of the Dallas Netfire facilities. AOCW has servers in I believe 4 of Netfires facilities. I can't speak for their other facilities, but having been in the Dallas one, I can comment on it. The facility is in the Univision building. They have an OC3 with Internap and two DS3's, one from C&W and one from Qwest. Good luck finding a good host. GsAlliance 07-27-2002, 10:47 PM apex sun ripped tehre site  so pathetic.. everyone rips sites.. PhoenixCIS 07-28-2002, 12:55 AM Really? That sux. Who did they rip it from? I will inform the owner (if he doesnt already know). |
