Out of interest, does anyone actually know how much it costs to advertise on these forums and if anyone has found it quite effective for their business?

Actually look at the very bottom of any WebHostingTalk page and you will see whtads@ev1.net, shoot an email off there. I believe there is now a dedicated person at EV1 to handle WHT ads. A rough guess of the prices are $1000 - $2000 per month.
