I was reading Costo Connection (july 2002) and their was a article about a young web designer. She states shes been doing web design for 6 years and have made over $5,000 dollars one year with her company (shes only 13) and by looking at her website www.lavtweb.com it looks like it was designed by a 5 year old with swish effects in the mini flash movie on the index.

Sometimes it’s not what you thing, although, in this case I would agree with you. If this 13 year old new the market well, designed for small business in her local community and they bought, then their you go. Not hard to make $5,000 in a year. Even if the quality isn’t that good, but you make it up in quantity…

How professional something looks compared to how much time and money was spent in “effects” could have something to do with it.

I mean I'm not tring to say I'm the best web designer around but if your homepage is that page it tells something about your quailty of work. It looks like it was developed in frontpage express and swish.

Its almost too “uncomplicated”:D

You mis-read the article, it says "to date she has made $5000" so from the time she was 7 until now @ 13 she's only made 5000, thats not a lot, I made more than that when I was 13... :)

I see I know but their are plenty web designers her age and I just dont see why they chose her.

I personally don't like it.

The site personally isn't to my tastes, but I think instead of picking the design to pieces, we should be praising Laima's initiative.

Frankly, Todd, her site is not a whole lot more simplistic than yours (tzdesigns.net), but to her credit, at least all her links work.

Me too. And I LIKE clean, uncomplicated sites. Her site does everything it needs to do without a bunch of stuff to wade through and I didn't have to wait forever for it to load up. I like that. K.I.S.S. :D

Not the best site design, and not the best 13-year old designer out there, but I wish her luck. :)

Though I must say that her site still needs a makeover.

You know I was going to agree with you at first, but after looking at it and thinking about it. You are wrong, the site is rather eye pleasing, there is that nice effect that made me want to click somethhing. and we should really thank her and her parrents for giving her the freedom to try to make a business out of her talent.

I made more than $5000 out of trdng cards when i was her age so it is not something to rant about.

PLUS the site was disgusting....really....
I might seem harsh to a 13 yr old but I believe if I were 13 years old now I could have done a better job.
My first HTML site in 1997 done i notepad was even much better than her's

Rant about or not, $5000 at 13 drawing pictures for others to see is pretty darn good. That'd be the year after I got my first summer job and I don't think I'd made anywhere near $5000.

exactly. Good for her I say and hope she makes even more of a success out of it.

People don't just wake up one day being able to design websites - it's a constant evolution. That she's gotten to where she is at only 13 I think should be congratulated, rather than 'exposed' by someone who's design might not be exactly world class themselves.

I myself is 13 and have my own web design business (tzdesigns,which isnt done yet I still got other projects to work on.) I started the same age as her (age 7,with expage.com..lol) But she so stated shes been doing it for 6 years and maybe so but the design shouldnt look like it was made by a 5 year old.

Thats exactly what I said. I dont know why everyone thinks its so great. It is totally awful compared to what people make on WHT.
