I think that the rule change allowing solicited reviews it's was a pretty bad move, how do we know that the customer it's not going to be compensated?, also a customer in some way may be feel forced to do it when a host ask him to come to review them.

The old rule was...

You may not solicit any external source to post on this forum regarding your company, services, or products; or any company, services, or products you are or may be associated with.

How do we know or not know it was solicited? How do we know if they are compensated.

I think that the rule change allowing solicited reviews it's was a pretty bad move

Soo, do you have a suggestion on how to make it better?

There are always ways around the rules - no rule will ever be perfect. :)

You really don't know, so it's better to just 'open up the field' & let them pour in. The truth always comes out sooner or later. :) In the end it nets webhostingtalk more content, more company names on the forum posts & even more search engine traffic.

It's win-win.

At least WHT is like other review places that delete positive reviews to only make those that pay for placement higher up on the 1.2.3. list. I have seen of few of those but I won't name them as they are ofter times on WHT.

Should read - Atleast WHT is NOT like other review places...

Whew... you scared me there. :stickout:

Yep, not allow solicited reviews at all as it was before.

So how do we enforce that, any better than we can enforce the new version of the rule?

You said...

Wouldnt we have the same problem with the original rule?

I don't think so, let me give you an example, it's a bit exaggerated, however, that the first that came to my mind.

Actually, if someone steal, it's against the law, however, if stealing it's not penalized with jail, don't you think that more people would do it?
I'm afraid that WHT in no time it's going to become a place where host sent to their customers to make them look good. We will see a lot of reviews from friends who are hosted for just starting host, or some host who want free ads.

As example, if HostX host for free to a individual, and the host ask to this person to review them on WHT, would this still be good? He has free host before than that, and he'll get the same service after the review too.

With the old rule, host would be at least more careful if they want that, now they can shoot at wild.

... if HostX host for free to a individual, and the host ask to this person to review them on WHT, would this still be good? ...That would be compensated and not allow.

What ever happen to just being ethical in how you operate? I don't understand why so many companies try to bend the rules just to get a review. It's a bit of an eye opener. :(

I applaud the WHT Gang for making efforts to improve upon this and see what will work. It's a trial and error type deal and as mentioned, there will always be those that find the loop holes to work a review in.

I am glad that I can sleep well at night. (though it might be all that Sam Adams - but - I sleep like a baby) :D

Actually, solicited reviews are allowed, so, they are not doing anything against the rules.
