I plan to buy a reseller account from Valuhost.com and I hesitate which one to choose, I mean Linux or Windows. What would you advise me to buy?

Linux is the way to go and you'll see majority of host in the market provide Linux over Windows.

Which do you have experience in? Linux is probably a wise choice to start out with and then move into offering Windows down the road. WHT is full of Linux providers but Windows has a huge market as well. Cost wise - Linux is probably the ideal choice for now.

If you plan to become a hosting provider, the decision should be based both on your skills and on your customer's needs. Will the operating system be one of the selling points of your future business? Will your customers know/care what the differences are between the operating systems? Will your customers need Windows-only features?

Further, is your future upstream provider (Valuhost) equally proficient with both Linux and Windows? Is there enough feedback to judge both sides of their business?

DITTO - You have to determine how you will differentiate yourself - how you will add value. There are a bazillion hosts out there. Why will people want to do business with you? Once you know the answer to that question - based on the answers to questions already posted in this thread - you will be able to make the best decision.

I do agree, though - that if you are just getting your feet wet, that a linux package, and specifically one with WHM/cPanel, would be a very good 'training ground' for you, if that is what you want/need.

it depends on what sorts of sites you are trying to host. If you will be targetting ASP, .NET developers - then windows is the only way to go. If you will be tagetting html sites or php/mysql or ROR sites - then you may want to stick with linux.

Even better - why not go with an account where you can sell both? (ie plesk or hsphere providers)

Totally depends on what you are planning to run both now and down the road, but from my experience, Windows servers generally have more down time..

Depends on what you are skilled in and how confident you are using it. Along with what type of control panel you will be using. In my opinion, I would get Linux first and see how it goes. You could always test them both out and see what one you like best.

Good luck.

Basically Linux will be more femiliar for most people.
If you targeted on wide range of customer Linux will be the best.
Else may targeted on the special features in Windows platform

First check the needs of your customers/clients...wht r the things they need to host?..if they have plain Html or simple sites with pictures and flash ...go with LInux OS...but if they are running ASP , .NET , MS SQL DB etc u will have to go with Windows OS..value your clients first..

Linux would be my vote to start with and then move into offering Windows as another choice for your clients.

Well its all upto your requirement .. if you want to host static websites or use it for email purpose .. then i will go with linux becz its cheaper and more reliable .. however if you/your client require .NET then you don't have any choice

Linux hosting is usually cheaper ...

In general you only need windows hosting if you need to run ASP sites and want to use access databases....
