View Full Version : Need work? Work for all? Total Freelance
phpcoder 07-24-2002, 05:08 PM Finally, after months of development, Total Freelance opened it’s doors to the web community today, launching a new initiative in an attempt to expand the free services available to web developers.
Entering a field of tough competition, Total Freelance hopes to attract a wide range of users who either do not wish to pay fees for similar services or cannot afford to pay those fees. Either way, Total Freelance aims to provide the best services we can and strives to bring users the latest technology so as to make the buying and selling of development services ever easier, all for no cost.

phpcoder 07-24-2002, 05:13 PM R. K. Raja, thank you. Your donation to the site was very usefull as it allowed us to upgrade our technologies and start future plans to grow the site!
Informity 07-24-2002, 05:16 PM This looks REALLY cool!
Btw the design is nice too...
Jeff-Rd 07-24-2002, 05:24 PM Awesome design you have there, I hope the service catches on fast.

phpcoder 07-24-2002, 05:30 PM Thanks for the comments people. We are currently having talks with different companies which will allow us to upgrade our services but keep the rates (FREE) the same. Things would then include: Paypal, 2checkout, CC proccessing, etc. A workstation so that you and the client can exchange files and view the status of projects, etc.
Hopefully we will see some big things happening in the next few months!

CodeGuy 07-24-2002, 05:45 PM Nice site.. Maybe a good way to bring in some extra $$$

phpcoder 07-24-2002, 05:51 PM *When* The site gets very popular like our expensive competitors, you can bring in A LOT of extra money. Some people have brought in over 100,000.00++ using our rival companies. And since your not obligated to anything you can try to make as much or as little as you want :)

Looks pretty cool. Give elance a run for their money. They could use the competition.
One minor comment, though. Go through the site and spell-check. As an example, in your FAQ (I have highlighted the errors),
How much money does it cost to join Total Freelance?
Total Freelance is 100% free! Although we are implementing platnium accounts (10.00/month) which will be availiable in v1.5 of Total Freelance. We also provide freelancers the opprotunity to have recieve a gold star (100.00/life) which shows that they are who they claim to be. To ensure that we will contact them with a simple phone call and a background check..
What does a buyer do?
Once you subscribe to Total Freelance as a buyer, you will be able to post any projects that you need created/finished/etc in the appropriate category. Freelancers will them have a certain amount of time (which you choose) to post a bid on the project. Once the date has elapsed (or you have closed the project) you will select the winning bidder. Once the winning bidder is chosen, you will both be notified via an email and a private message. From then on you and the freelancer will work together to accomplish your task. After the task has been completed, you will be asked to rate the freelacers (1-5 stars) and leave any comments that you deam nessicarry.
It may seem picky, but it contributes to the overall professionalism of the site.
Good luck with the site.
Vito
phpcoder 07-24-2002, 06:16 PM Vito, thanks. I am actually addressing those issues now. We were going to launch last night but a stupid error resulted in all of our files being lost. Therefore we had to restore it from backups. Some of the spelling changes were lost :(

These things happen. :) I have a new product that was set to launch 2 weeks ago, but little surprises/bugs keep coming up. So I know the feeling. Always a delay somewhere...
Anyways, I just registered as a freelancer on your site. It was a bug free registration process. Always nice... :)

Just looking at your site again. A thought occured to me. Is it possible to have a section showing the latest projects posted on your site? You seem to have alot of categories/subcategories. If someone offers services in multiple categories, it could take a while (and be frustrating) having to check each category individually on a regular basis. It would be great if you had a "New Listings" section where a visitor could see the most recent projects posted on the site. Ideally, if you had some filtering in the search, a freelancer could simply choose what categories he wants to see, then he could choose a timeframe (last 24 hours/last week/last month) and it would show him all new listings with his selected criteria.
Vito
phpcoder 07-24-2002, 06:38 PM Thanks for the idea, that will be included in v1.2 of the site which should be out shortly. As for the search... we are going to upgrade that a bit (which will include dates) in v1.2 as well. Other than that the real complex/advanced search features will be made availiable in the platnium acounts.
After all, we cna't allow everything to be for free ;) There have to be some perks for paid users :D
Thanks Again,
Alec
Excellent idea. Provide free and open access to all areas of the site. But give paid members added functionality features to enhance efficiency and ease of use. Brilliant.
Should be a real winner.
Vito
phpcoder 07-24-2002, 07:22 PM Yes, exactly what we were thinking. Most features that platnium members get normal members get... just not as much.
For instance, a normal member has room for 5 contacts in his address book, platnium members get unlimited. Same goes for portfolio slots and stuff like that.
We are trying to provide as much as possible and keep it free! Hopefully it all works out!

Jeff-Rd 07-27-2002, 12:00 AM Hello...
I just registered with your site and made a bid...
A couple of suggestions for you:
- Allow HTML code, or atleast let it skip spaces..because I was pressing enter thinking it would space out..but it did it all in one line...
- Portolio area's thumbnails are messed up..or only allow for sites and it messes up the preview...
Thats about it, if I find any problems, or errors, ill let you know..
Over all, great site..good job!
-Jeff
phpcoder 07-28-2002, 01:14 AM Thanks Jeff. I will fix them ASAP!
