OK. I own a gaphic design company and sell hosting as well. For the most part, my hosting sales have been to clients that I design their sites. I am looking to advertise my hosting service on a broader market, like nation/world wide. My site is geared to BOTH design and hosting. Will this detract from my hosting sales? Should I create a site JUST for hosting? Or do you think this could be a gateway for more design work?

Not to advertise, but I would like some opinions. My web address is www.iveka.com. Just let me know what you think as far as drawing customers for hosting.

Thanks a lot!

i think it's ok to incorporate it as one thing. it's a value added service.

basically, promote hosting (make it the main business)....add the web design to it as a value added thing that your hosting business does.

don't do it the other way around...ie...focus webdesign.and oh..we have hosting also.

anyways, that's one way to do it...it's how I do it.

or just seperate the 2 and link them. so on the hosting site...you would recommend this particule webdesign company and vice versa...but then just make sure the 2 'company' are really seperate.

hope that helps

Good point. I think my site is geared more to the local area, and more to the design side. I am going to rework it so that it balances out the services a little better.

Thanks for your input!

Hi iveka,

It looks as though hostasia has given you some good advice.

I would also take a look at where you expect most of your sales to come from. Will it be from those needing design work from you who may also need hosting or the other way around? I know several designers who offer "package" deals which include both design work and hosting. This type of "package" makes it more convenient for the end user, though I don't know how well it works out for the designer/host.

There are many other designers who concentrate almost solely on design work, but offer hosting to those customers as an added bonus. If you still feel your big draw in getting customers is with your design skills, you may want to keep some emphasis on that. Focusing on your strengths is never a bad idea.

As previously mentioned too, creating a sense of balance to your business is important.

Thanks! I reworked my site a little to give it a good balance between design and hosting. The majority of my income comes from design, but it is nice to have that steady stream of hosting $$ when the design market gets a little cold. We'll see how it works out!
