Hello, dear WHT members!

Well, I'd like to hear some feedbacks regarding your experience with DMOZ.

Perhaps, I'm doing something wrong, but I'll tell you the story.

More than 3 months ago I have submitted a website to DMOZ directory. I'm aware that approval at DMOZ takes time, but...
3 months passed, the website never appeared in DMOZ. OK, I decided to contact the category editor and find out what's wrong with the website, whether it violates some DMOZ rules, asked for advice, etc.
I never got any reply. 2-3 weeks passed again, I tried to contact the editor again, I also ticked 'CC staff' in contact form. Again nothing from there.

I remember using DMOZ some 2-2.5 years ago, and there were less problems submitting a website.
What I see now at many forums (mainly freelance forums) is people looking for DMOZ editors to submit their website to DMOZ successfully.
This makes me think that DMOZ has become something different, than community-oriented open(!) directory. It has become almost inaccessible by common person (not editor).

Maybe I'm wrong here, but come on, WHT, what can you tell me regarding this?

It's quite hard to get them listed you. And you can do almost nothing. You're from Ukraine? Try to read forum.searchengines.ru. Maybe you will find some answers. I saw some DMOZ editors there.

I got three sites listed in 2004, since then it depends if the editors had a good or bad day ... many people I know have waited for over a year so I would not get t oo upset about the three months.

DMOZ works on a 1year response time not 1hour like a host should ;)

1 year? We're waiting for 3 years already to be listed there :)

Thanks, sibsoft, I've had a look.
Well, most statements there are apparent - you submit and wait :) Editor's work is voluntary, that's why it can take 2 minutes or 2 years to get your website listed.

DMOZ states that it is OPEN directory, but because of the above reason it becomes limited mostly to people who know editors personally :)

What I'm trying to say: DMOZ was really OPEN several years ago. If the website didn't violate DMOZ rules - it was included within a month (from my experience).

Now freelance forums are full of offers like '$30 for editor to include my website in DMOZ'. And I have no doubt that some editors accept these offers ;)

Is all that the sign of OPEN and COMMUNITY-ORIENTED directory? I think, no.
More of that, you'll NEVER find out why they don't include your website.

I never had problems with gettings listed. I just asked, and within the week the site in my sig was listed.
