We have ModernBill 4 installed and have been using it for a while for our retail hosting customers.
Problem is, it took us so long to understand it just enough to get a simple billing system going, I am afraid to touch it.
We need to start making some changes soon and I am wanted to get some input from the group to see if MB 5 was any easier to deal with or understand. Also, how tough is the upgrade from 4 to 5 and is it safe? I would have to blow away what I already have setup by upgrading.
MBv5 is an absolute JOKE. We paid $500 for it more than 12 months ago when it was declared 'final' and 'stable'.
Yet to this day v5 is still a BETA product riddled with bugs, logic flaws and fundamental issues. Oh and it's impossibly hard to use.
Save your money and time and go with someone else eg. whmcs.

MB v5 is like a train wreck with no end in sign :) That is the nicest way I could put it. :)
I switch to MB v4 years ago and while it was always too advanced for what I needed it seemed to be the 'flavor of the month' and the company seemed stable so I made the jump and it was sometimes smooth sailing for me an MB until I realized something did not work or a new 'release' came out that broke old things that used to work and so on.
The company never over years and years seemed to be at a point where they could say 'Hey, our product is solid now and all bugs are resolved. What should we think about adding now?'
They just keep on rolling out new things leaving the older things still broken without even looking back.
My guess is that as new things come out (New control panels, registrars and other software) they want to support it and seem to drop everything no matter what is outstanding and try and push out the new stuff.
I finally gave up after many stressful hours and grey hairs trying to upgrade v4 > v5 and moved over to WHMCS.
It is not as fancy as WHMCS but I can tell you it offers all I need and they seem to fix things as they are reported the best they can and Matt is on top of support tickets like white on rice :)
They seem very small (maybe only a few employees) but again they answer the tickets in hours (usually under 2 hours) and it is not MB where you wait days, weeks and sometimes months to get help unless you stay on top of them everyday. Also the MB > WHMCS was great, kept most of all my client data and even imported the invoices from MB, that is something MB could not even do with it's own SOFTWARE!
Other than that I really have no other suggestions, I have ubersmith is also good but don't have any real experience with it other than demo a demo. I hope to stay with WHMCS a long time and I hope the support and updates from them stay as prompt as they are now.
