Hi guys

after 3 years with my current ISP and webhost, they have told me I need to get my own server, or another host, for my email list requirements.

I have a list of about 5,000 and I send to them about twice per month.

So I am looking for advice for companies that can provide SMTP services that will let me send to my list, or maybe I am thinking I should set up my own server.

I think I would rather use a host company to manage this for me.

most places probably arent gonna let you do that much because of the chance it may be spam, and if they do then they are letting others and they are probably spamming which means there ips are probaly blocked and your mail will not reach most of its recipients anyway which is useless then

You need one of two things:

* A dedicated server, where your provider will not have much to lose if your IP address gets blacklisted

* A shared hosting account, PLUS a third party mailer service such as constantcontact.com, myemma.com, or similar

You could get small fully managed server to do so. But I don't think shared web hosting is your option.

What is your budget on this?

You may come upon having a hard time finding a provider who will be able to support mailing lists. It will depend on the amount of complaints you get from mailing those subscribers.

The best solution is to get a managed server and install a mailing list software that allows sending mails in batches.

Most providers are scared to touch these sort of things, it's so easy to get a whole subnet blocked from just a single mailing. You might be best looking for a dedicated email marketing provider, but your chances are it's in a random foreign country.

I think godaddy.com better for you, because they provided SMTP also e-mail marketing package "Express Email Marketing"

Depending on how much space each e-mail is using, I would reccomend a host with small space and high bandwith, you probobly about 20 GB of bandwidth each month, at most. I don't think you need a dedicated server yet. Also, use third party software like Covalent said

I beleive, a fully managed VPS should be more than enough for this kind of usage.

Some providers that have good reputation here in WHT : ModVPS, EuroVPS, PowerVPS, KnownHost etc.

I agree with fisher. Express E-Mail marketing. You have severl options as to size. You control the categories. You also control the look and feel.

For your mail size you can go to www.softlayer.com or www.sectorlink.com both are good and will suit for your business.

They also agree for this mail trasmission until there are some issues

But for me my mailing list size is few times of mental_cube(around 50K). What are the criteria where server ip get blocked and in that case will hosting company charge something against that?

It depends on what mail you are sending and 100% your luck .

Check with sectorlink.com company , have a chat with that technical support guy Mr.MAtt or Mr.Mike you will get clear idea about this. if your mailing size is more than 50k then sectorlink,com is the only solution for the same.

No hosting company charges you until there is some friction between you and the company. no one worry about what you do with your server until you are in some hot list.

So do check this issues u can continue, do visit also the site www.feedblitz.com, they will send your 50k mail ids if all are good mails

Try getting a VPS 5000 emails twice a month is not alot, i run 150,000,000 emails once a month from my servers so maybe that may be a little bias to say its small.

But i would recommend a VPS and software that runs in smaller batches thus allowing you to get a smaller VPS and spreading out the delivery over time.

toatee, you run 150,000,000 emails once a month? what are you sending out and how did you ever get a customer base or a opt in list that big :)

It is a "Gamers" newsletter about upcoming releases of games updates to games etc.

That list has grow since about late 1998 or early 1999 or so

and i send it out twice a month just takes forever to actually finish sending, lol

Well there is absolutely nothing wrong with what you are wanting to do. Just please remember that most EVERYONE who has been a host more than six months has been burned by spammers. And thus we are a suspicious bunch.

Just remember to be upfront with your new host on everything. The last thing you want is someone getting jittery and shutting you down prematurely.

What kind of budget are you working with. Maybe some of us here can help you in your search.

Depends, is it b2b? If so one of my clients is allready running similar on a dedicated server. Aside from one instance ( a german host was sending NDR's to his NDR's and then blocked.. and then the traffic started! ) it's not been a problem.

Why not use a service like Aweber for all your email marketing and forget all the complications involved in running your own high end VPS or dedis, not to mention the email deliverability issues?

A couple of things a host may ask you include, how did you build your list and what is the subject matter? 5,000 is a relatively small mailing list. If you built the list organically by people opting in to your list, I don't think you should have much of a problem finding a host that will be able to accomodate your needs.

The tougher decision is figuring out what email marketing/newsletter management system you are going to utilize to help manage the distribution and subscribe/unsubscribe requests. What type of system are you using now?

What is your budget? Get a shared hosting if its below U$10 a month? But i would recommend dedicated.

I'm not sure how much you are willing to spend, but I would get in touch with Zak with Yellow Fiber (www.yellowfiber.com). He's got a good setup, and hosts a lot of large mailing lists.

im in the same boat here im trying to help a friends @ a club who have 19k email address's and i need to be able to send out weekley flyers etc any one suggest a cheap option to use?
