Hello,
I am looking to build a new site for someone and they requested a CMS like interface that supports ecommerce. Right now I am thinking joomla 1.0.12 with the oscommerce mods. does anyone have an opinion or suggestion as to what to use. typically i code everything and maintain it but they would like somehting that is a little easier to use for people with no coding experience so that they can maintain it "in house".
thanks in advance
I used Joomla for a long time. I think it is ok, but the script is way too big. I currently build sites on drupal. It is smaller, faster, and lets you customize your sites easier. You don't have to deal with all those CHMOD files when you move hosts or upgrade. I also think the security is better. I have seen tons of hacked Joomla sites. The script has built. I just feel like the script is just very advanced. Also you can edit pages while you are on the page, instead of logging in the backend.
There are a lot of similar questions asked before, i would say to make a search to get answers. Anyhow my vote goes to wordpress which is excellant and moreover opensource.

Joomla is probably your best option as it's a pretty stable product. You can also look at mamabo which is hte predecessor to joomla.
Be carefull however when using these CMS' as most of them are bulky and very often have more functionality then you need.
Joomla is however pretty easy to maintain and update content in.

thanks guys, i'll be taking a look at drupal. I know joomla has some power but is easily hacked if you chmod something wrong...

Joomla is like any other CMS if you leave config.php, setting.php what ever the CMS uses set to world writable its going to get hacked.
