Hi all,

I am starting work on a site which will be a personal hobby, for the most part. The site will be aimed in the area of online entertainment (links to interesting news, humor, etc). I was wondering if anybody could give some insight in to how to promote such a site. I have a lot of experience in webdesign, coding, and all of the technical knowledge that goes in to such a project, bu I'm very weak in the marketing and promotion area. I would love to get some feedback from knowleedgeable people, and if anyone would be interested in affiliating from a marketing perspective, and staying in touch as this project gets off the ground, I would love to hear from you as well.

- Google Adwords
- other Pay Per Click sites
- try to setup partnerships with other companies/websites and exchange links to help your link pop.

I got 500 odd backlinks this month to my site by registering as forums like these - and putting the url of my site in my profile !

There are several things that you need to do in order to promote a website and make it successful.

1) learn about search engine optimization, there are many articles on internet about how to optimize your website for the search engines.

2) have relevant content on your website

3) Make the site with search engine friendly URL's

4) Implement Google Site Maps and yahoo feeds

5) Make your website popular by adding your link to any free directory available, post in forums (do not spam), do link exchange etc.

6) If your budget is good, do some pay per click

7) if your budget also allows it, add your link to directories that have a High Page Rank.

8) Create a Blog that can interest people to keep them coming back to you.

link building would be your best option for starters.

Forums are a great way to get started. Some forums have advertising boards and most let you put your link in your signature. Only post in forums that have something to do with your business so you visitors are more targeted.

Definitely get going with forums but dont spam
