View Full Version : Namecheap Problem - No ability to change MX Record

I recently transfered my domain name to Namecheap. After getting my account, I could not find a way in the control panel to change my DNS ...namely the MX record. After writing to tech support, Jerry said that I should find an "All Host Records" menu in my control panel to edit the records.

This menu item was not visible in my account so I wrote back to tech support. Jerry then replied:

"In order for us to be in control of the zone file in which allows one to configure our free services as well as host records the domain must use our DNS. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you."

What the hell?

Namecheap’s own homepage specifically states that custom DNS settings (CNAME, A, MX, MXE) are supported for every domain registration and transfer.

Am I missing something? Are other people experiencing the same problems with Namecheap?

I don't see why you do it with Namecheap directly.

Get a free DNS service, like http://www.zoneedit.com/

All Namecheap support means is, in order to change MX records you need to use their DNS services which you are not using at the moment since you do not see
"All Host Records"

Host4cheap,
Thanks for your advice! I understand now. It looks like it will work.

In order for you to use NameCheap's DNS services you must use their NameServers. It's the same with every registrar. Common sense.
