View Full Version : Need reseller hosting recommends for 6-10 accounts
clanmesa 08-02-2007, 10:31 PM I'm getting out of the hosting biz, pretty much. My current hosting company, midPhase, is having issues for too long, and I'm done apologizing for the server being down to my web clients (and I have a VPS account!). I have about 6-10 sites left that I'm keeping (including a couple of test domains, where I work on sites before launch).
My requirements:
STABLE, STABLE, STABLE
***24/7 *phone* support*** (my clients want to know I'm on it, not that I'm waiting for an email response - cue "Jeopardy" music)
Support that is based in America with English-speaking techies so I can understand them (I'm partially deaf and struggle with understanding foreign accents).
Some support with installing scripts, if needed. I'm fairly conversant, but I have my days. I rarely ask a question more than once, though. Support with server probs that might crop up, so I can concentrate on design and not on IT.
Linux
cPanel/Fantastico
AWStats
10G Disk Space/100G Bandwidth
Datacenter in the US, preferably onsite
Possible eCommerce capabilities
PHP (latest build), CGI, Java, JavaScript, the usual
Unlimited MySQL databases (I won't need many, but stuff like Joomla needs databases)
Did I mention stable?
That's all I can think of. I'd rather not spend a bazillion bucks for it, but I'm paying about $50 a month right now. I'm open to spending more if necessary, but not hellaciously more. if it would make my life easier.
Can anyone recommend a good company? Please??
andygen 08-02-2007, 11:22 PM Hi clanmesa
You may check it in the forum
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=130
clanmesa 08-02-2007, 11:30 PM A list of a bazillion hosting companies all telling me how great they are and how they can make my life so wonderful. Anyone can say anything they want- that doesn't mean they're worth the effort.
I was hoping for some good personal experiences/recommends from people, which I would, of course, exercise due diligence in checking out.
Perhaps that's not possible in this forum, but I have seen other posts of people recommending hosting companies, which I've checked out.
dcpweb 08-03-2007, 01:28 PM Hi,
I would recommend www.site5.com or www.hostine.com
regards
PogiWeb 08-03-2007, 02:13 PM You may want to checkout Hostgator.com

Hi clanmesa - honestly, for your requires (ie 10 GB diskspace and 100 GB transfer) - it will cost you alot of truely reliable service (or as you worded it STABLE, STABLE, STABLE). Do you actually need that many resources, or is that just what you are used to seeing?

There is alot of such material already present on these forums. I would recommend narrowing your search down to 2, or 5 or 10 providers that interest you then search these forums. Youa re obviously correct - I do not think the offers forum is the place to go.
Hope this helps and best of luck in your search...
TheTop 08-03-2007, 05:04 PM I think there are many companies that can help you with your requirements. I can't speak for others on their level of stable, however 24/7 phone support might bring you into a much higher price bracket then you were hoping for.
Good luck with your search.
Adam H 08-03-2007, 06:05 PM Have a look at http://hostsentry.net/serveruptime since your keen on server uptime.
iHubNet 08-03-2007, 06:17 PM with your requirement " STABLE, STABLE, STABLE", I would not go with overselling..
Nnyan 08-03-2007, 06:18 PM Lately the three hosts that keep impressing me the most are:
Innohosting
Knownhost
Cartika
You should realize that there are some great hosts out there that do not provide phone support (or only on weekdays, emergencies), so you are limiting our choices there. I've found that with a good host with solid support I never need phone support but thats just me.
Also you should note that most hosts will help (and some will go above and beyond) install 3rd party scripts but since they are 3rd party there is no assurances.

Read other threads in this subforum, and you'll get a much more complete list of hosts deserving to be on your Maybe list.
Follow that with an almost abusive use of http://www.webhostingtalk.com/search.php to find more reviews about the companies you've shortlisted and you're already well advanced in the choosing a host game.
***24/7 *phone* support***That might make your short list unnecessarily shorter IMO, with no real guarantee of a fast answer, especially during a major crisis.
kjawaid 08-04-2007, 01:38 AM You can try Resellerzoom failover package but the major draw back is they don't have phone support .. if you really require a phone support then i suggest cartika
For VPS you can try modvps wiredtree knownhost and futurehosting.biz
Aimless Hexes 08-04-2007, 12:36 PM I have a 'Swamp Croc' plan at Host Gator and have had next to zero downtime for 2 years running. I'm on here researching other companies reputations as well. It's tough to find one that lives up to their promises. (A few affiliates and I are going to split the cost to save on hosting for our sites.)
The support at Host Gator is great. Support tickets via email are same day, if not within the hour. You can call 24/7 and reach a live person (from my experience, and I'm a night owl) - English-speaking, no less. (I think their offices are based in Florida)
Only problem (which may not be a problem for everyone) is they have disabled topsites list scripts on their site. Can't say I blame them though.
Good luck choosing! I'm not sure I am brave enough to switch at this point - I finally found a host I like. :)
clanmesa 08-04-2007, 10:33 PM Good to know. Thank you! I'll look into them.
clanmesa 08-04-2007, 10:34 PM with your requirement " STABLE, STABLE, STABLE", I would not go with overselling..
Didn't mention overselling, but thanks. As I said, I'm trying to get OUT of the hosting biz, which pretty much precludes overselling.

Well, if a company says they can provide 24/7 phone support, I expect to be able to call at 10 o'clock at night and talk to a warm body.
I've been paying for a VPS up until now, so I'm not looking for something that's $4.95 per month.
The research process is unbelievable, what with everyone and their mother offering hosting services!! I could spend years researching everyone out there.

YES, which is why people become soooo frustrated now. There are far too many providers.
ldcdc 08-05-2007, 01:00 AM (I think their offices are based in Florida)Not anymore. Texas is their new home.
