we are at a crossroads and need advice. our hosting service is new and we have No 800 number for clients to call. we do aggressively pursue requests for presales tech by phone.
Does anyone have experience to claim their weekly sales went up because of phone orders?
Does anyone have experience to the contrary and can say that answering the phone made little to no difference in sales but only created pain in the a**.

As a side note we offer tech support by email ticket system only, this we will never change....

The only part of the sales cycle phone orders seem to help in, is the closing, most people will visit your webpage, email, the call to place the order, if you have no 800 number they wont complete that last step sometimes

Also, sometimes people will call us to see if we actually answer instead of getting a voice mail type system where they are just kept on hold.

It's also nice to have the number for emergency support because they can contact us by phone and we can have it directed to our cells and what not.

Agreed... for probably one in three people, having a phone number to call (where somebody actually answers) is important in closing the sale. It's interesting how many people I talk to who are shocked that they can actually get through to somebody on the phone - tells you the state of customer support in the web hosting industry as a whole.
