Just looking for some feedback on digiSHOP. Also how it compares to x-cart and maybe Zen-Cart.
I'm currently working with x-cart and had enough of wasting time trying to redesign their piece of crap template. Only reason I'm using x-cart is bacausse it support the Canadian tax system (Another brilliant idea brought to you by the Canadian gov.) It seems digiShop also supports the CDN tax system.

Well the first thing I found is that it cost where the other two don't. And the features seem to be lacking some in comparison to the other two. I would first test Zen-cart because their pretty easy to skin and the product is pretty stacked with features and modules/plugins that should be able to handle almost any setup you might have.

Yah I thought about Zen cart but still a bit weary about using an open source script for handling commerce transactions (personal hobby stores is one thing but a big retail outlet is another thing). I use OS scripts for the backend (Drupal/Etomite/SMF) but none of these are as critical as a shopping cart.
I'll give it a go today and see how it works out.
Luckily x-cart allows the sale/transfer of the license.

Tried ZenCart today and for now it wont cut it as it doesn't print GST and PST taxes on separate lines. By law this is how it has to be printed out on receipts. Seems it would require quite a bit custom coding to get the tax module to do this. Well by the time I paid someone to do this I'd probably have the x cart template completed.

I currently use digishop on a scented soy candle site: egersoy.com
If you have any questions about it just let me know.
Thanks,
Sam

I have never used DigiShop but I have used X-Cart and found it to be pretty good. It is not perfect by any means but a good alternative.

If you want options outside of Digishop, I'm aware of several carts that support Canadian taxes (I have to since I work in the industry!)
You could checkout Canada Cart: www.canadacart.ca
Quikstore: www.quikstore.com (note - quikstore just updated to 3.0 and I'm not sure about Canadian taxes in the new version)
Active checkout: www.activecheckout.ca
There are lots of options out there - however I noticed you picked X-cart and DigiShop which I believe are both locally hosted. In which case Quikstore may be the best alternative to fit your needs. Are you open to the idea of a remotely hosted cart?
