This is NOT an ad; we are looking for suggestions
while we create this plan.
I realized after creating this thread that the title
seemed more like an advertising line, which is not what I
intended to do
Thanks

Hi,

I'm from awphosting (http://www.awphosting.com). I was wondering if anybody is interested in a package with really low priced hosting with the provision that support will be of lower priority than our normal hosting packages.

The pricing will be something to the effect of $1.95->$3.95 per month (pricing not set yet; cheaper for yearly payments). Support response time for 99%+ of support tickets will be under 12-36 hours. In fact, most will be under 12 hours.

Package features will be along the lines of:
50-100 mb
2-3 gig
NO Setup Fees
multiple (unlimited?) FTP
1-5 domains
unlimited subdomains
unlimited parked domains
unlimited domain aliases
10-50 POP accounts
unlimited aliases
unlimited auto responders
PHP4
personal cgi-bin
PERL 5
HSphere control panel
SiteStudio web page maker
OScommerce e-commerce package
frontpage extensions
search engine submit
personal incoming/outgoing mail servers
2 MySQL users
2 MySQL dbs
PHPbb integrated

Control Panel screenshots: http://www.awphosting.com/demos.html

30 day money back guarantee.
Paypal accepted.
No checks or money orders for this special ($1.95 check?! :D )

This package is targeted at any of these people:
1. Those who do not require much support as they know what they
are doing
2. Those who just want a place to park domains/get emails, etc.
3. Those who do not have a time critical web site development plan

Support level will be same. For example, if you need help setting up a forum, we'll help you - it will just take us longer to get to you vs. a "regular" client.

Pricing and features are not set at this point. We are still open to suggestions. Post here for the benefit of public viewing.

I believe that about covers it.

Thanks for your time,
Charles

This would be perfect for some users. The main problem that I see, though, would be that you WILL have users that sign up for this just to get the low price, and then throw a fit if it DOES take a day and a half for them to get support.

I would suggest making it NO email support, support via a forum ONLY and then offer a few of your "better" clients (everyone has them ;)) a small discount if they volunteer to help out on the support forums.

Good suggestion. We'll keep it in mind :)

It sounds interesting. I would like to see what you come up with.

Aren't there already enough hosts here that offer very cheap plans with no support.

This is true ... however, wouldn't it be nice for this to be noted up front?

And the idea isn't for NO support ... just SLOW support. :uhh:

Yea, I've seen this idea tossed around before.
Even back in the 'Brick and Mortor' days. The old signs that said "$5.00 per question, $25.00 per stupid question' and stuff like that. Customer support has always been one of the biggest costs of doing business.
Unfortunately, I don't think that it would work out. How much cheaper can you go, even if you remove the support, let alone just provide slow support? I also agree with kcdworks, when soemthing happens the customers will 'forget' that they agreed to getting slower support. The good customers will opt for a somewhat more expensive account, figuring that if support is such a low priority, so will be the service.
