Hi all,

Is anybody aware of how to obtain the .uk zone file? I have tried nominet directly and surprise surprise they do not allow it.

I know it is possible to get the .com/.net file from the zone access program run by verisign.

From researching this area, the last time it was available was back in 2003. Does anybody know of where this old zone file can be obtained?

To quote Nominet's legal department:

"As compilations, zone file databases are protected under EU law by
Database Right. As a derivative work of the main register from which they are sourced, they are likely also to attract copyright protection in addition to or in place of database right."

Very legalese, but what it basically means is that you can't have them!

And if I were you I wouldn't do anything that could get you into a legal dispute with Nominet!

Sure the name of the software is "Domain Research Tool", you can find it here:
http://www.domainresearchtool.com/

You can download a number of zone files (including the co.uk) when you purchase the software.

From what I remember, they are not the full zonefiles and may be running from the last public copy of the .uk zones.
