Hi. If you all will vote and post any comments id appreciate it. I want to know if there is a market for SimpleCP before I start to finish it up for release.

Here goes:
- $50 one time
- unlimited servers
- unlimited domains
- access to a members area with forums, support, updates and unlimited upgrades for SimpleCP (which will have more features for the end user and a reseller panel to match or exceed WHM)?
- source code for everyone :)

How soon would be be interested in buying it?

Thanks,

I wouldnt hold your breath. there are some problems with the cp market.

A. too many fools who go for cps that dont work and just offer pretty colors and useless features.

B. Many people here, including me, have experience with controls panels comming out soon. It appears that the word soon really means in the next 10 years(I heard someone say 2 weeks for 4 months. Then next week for about 3 months).

When you say start to finish up. How long does that mean. I might seem really negative, but I have a right to be, I got screwed out of a cp awhile ago.

Hi. I am sorry that you have been burned by soon to be released products however, we have a live demo up (simplecp.com) and the source for anyone to download and use (www.sourceforge.net/projects/oswh - still beta files though) - its not a dream. You can download the code

By finishing up i mean adding a reseller panel and adding some features and making some changes
Right now its good to go for the end user and admin - we use it on all our servers and it works great. There are also 2 other companies using it in their production systems to help us test it - its stable :)

No one wants to vote :(?

Well don't feel that way...

I have a friend who uses cobalts for some hosting he provides, and he's looking forward to your final release...

He hates cobalts as much as I do, but his customers love them... He mainly does windows hosting so he doesn't want to mess with linux boxes constantly :D

I don't mean to butt in to this enchanting conversation however isn't this thread against the forum rules

How soon would be be interested in buying it?
With regard to the CP question, no I wouldn’t use a CP the day it comes out, not even a week after, I would wait at least 6 months after release before using it on a production server. To me that's just common sense…

Over the last few months we have heard a lot of talk but not seen anything in the CP world. Take VirtualCP and HostGUI as examples, they have been coming out “soon” for months now.

Has there been any hard releases of control panels lately, I think I have heard of it seams dozens of new control panels coming out, but has their really been one that has been released within the last 6 months and is in use? Even so i would have to agree on waiting to get into a new control panel, and let the other guys beta test a "released" product.

Again, see my posts above

And I dont beleive this is against the rules? This is the control panel thread, and you guys will be the ones (hopefully) purchasing it i figured you guys would like to share your opinion on pricing options

Its boarder line, if it currently was for sale, then you prob would have had this thread canned a little bit ago. Worrie about getting it done now. Dont worrie about advertising. In my opinion advertisements dont sell cps. peoples reations do(of course I am guilty of going after a adv, but then I choose reactions and it all worked out.). Get it done, and have it work.

Good luck :)

Thanks. Im not trying to advertise this. I want to know if anyone will be interested - why would I want to continue if no one wants the product - know what I mean? ALl i want to know is is it worth it to finish it up or are people too attached to cpanel :-) (j/k)

You want to make a CP?
Seems like H-sphere is only one that can do both Platforms...
If you make yours do that and make it more like the ease of Cpanel to operate (since HS is such a learning curve)
I bet it would sell Fast!!!!
Otherwise there's 3 different well esablished and proven stable CP's that people know and trust.

I guess it is up to the mods what they want to do :)

OK, its up to the mods. I just wanted to know if people would think its reasonable
Its not like im accepting pre-orders or anything - i want to know what would be best for you all - would'nt you have liked it if cpanel asked you how much you wanted to pay?

Frankly $50 bucks isn't that bad...

Once its final, I'll toss it on a development box, and test it out, if its good, hey we got something for a great price...

If it sucks, oh well, it was only $50 bucks, we've blown more money on worse things :D

in your opinion - if we let anyone download it with the understanding that if they planned to use it (they can test it for free) in a production system then they should pay the fee - ive considered that - can people be trusted :) - i mean i know that there are those who just wont pay but do you think that would work?

Make a version that has a user limit.... Let people download it for free...

It would be easy to crack, but you can take somethings out etc, and there is perl encoding, which I just learned about :D

I dont want to create limits like that - if there are people that will hack it they might as well do it without the work :) But, will anyone actually pay?

I personally think everyone is looking for a complete solution ie. billing included
