i have a domain ex: mydomain.com! i want to create nameservers for it and have the ability each nameserver to be in different company is that possible?

ex:
ns1.mydomain.com - my dedicated server IP
ns2.mydomain.com - my dedicated server company nameserver
ns3.mydomain.com - one free dns provider
ns4.mydomain.com - another free dns provider
ns5.mydomain.com - another free dns provider

i want it to be like that so as every time at least one nameserver to be up.. even in case of an attack its almost impossible to be down 4-5 companies..

What should i search for? i need secondary dns services? give me every possible way to make it.. free or paid..

I dont want to go only with one good provider with server all around the world like zonedit.. i want every nameserver to be in different provider..

Thanks

Quite easy ...

U need to use a 3rd party for DNS handling. i.e. U set ur domain to this provider and then u define all the NS's u want pointed all-over-the-net.

I use FREEDNS (http://freedns.afraid.org/) for quite a while and am very pleased with them.

Thanks

PS: anyone could make a simpe tutorial for that would be nice..

This used to be important. I remember having 10 name servers at one point and 4 off site. Now we use only two external and two internal. They are all on the same physical network and we've not had a single problem. I think anything more now-a-days is overkill.

Just register and start playing around ... it is so easy no manual is really needed.

you can try www.xname.org (http://www.xname.org) (free) or better use www.nettica.com (http://www.nettica.com) (50$/year for 100 domains) which I use, especially in europe they're fast...

THanks

with nettica you can, they support re-branding of dns to use yourdomain
here's how it works http://www.nettica.com/Articles.aspx?A=4
i did it myself, works perfect...

You may be able to do this, but all of your SOA records will be different. Also, it's going to be a hassle to update since you'll need to login 5 times to update 1 host record.

My reccomendation: Pick one good dns provider with geographically separated dns locations and you'll have a much better setup.

Also - if you want to have your mask them (ie. ns1.yourdomain.com) you'll need to find a provider that allows that. Called 'DNS Masking' or 'Private DNS' usually.
