Regarding 4Webspace (Tera-Byte):
You don't need them to install PHP and MySQL on the server. All RaQ4s come with PHP already installed and configured to work with MySQL.
You can get a package from the Cobalt download site that will install MySQL for you in less than a minute - for free.
PHPMyAdmin is also a free program.

4Webspace/Tera-Byte also just recently changed their policies. They are no longer allowing you to run DNS off of your own machine. You *must* use their DNS. For an extra $10/month, they will co-brand it so you can keep your registered name servers - but again, they'll be assigned to IPs that are not on your machine. You'll have to add a virtual site on your machine, then go to Tera-Byte's site and plug in the DNS information for the site/domain/IP.

Note: If you do not want the DNS service co-branded and are satisfied with having your customers registering their name servers as ns1.tera-byte.com and ns2.tera-byte.com, it's free.
Of course, then you run the risk of having your customers just cruise on over to Tera-Byte and host with them instead. Yeah... no wonder it's free. *snort*

Having your clients register their domain with YOUR name servers is what's going to cost you an extra $10/mo.
*mumble mumble grumble*

I tell ya, a plain vanilla linux box is looking better and better all the time - I'm starting to not care about having the convenience of a control panel for my customers. The RaQ is great, but... (anyone who's hosted on a RaQ knows what to put after that 'but'.)

The RaQ's control panel is what kept me from signing up as a hosting customer with a host who was RaQ based, and it is probably what will keep me from looking at a RaQ for dedicated as well. The looks are OK (not great, but OK), but is is so darn S L O W on every demo I've seen that I just can't stand it (at least it was on the RaQ 3... made me feel like the RaQ was using a 286 chip. Yuk. Maybe the RaQ 4 finally has enough juice to run its own control panel in real time?)

Raven: it looks like the 4webspace $99 is for a Raq 3; the $199 is for a Raq 4.

Don't know if I like the word "shack" is a selling feature though!

My bad! I read the 4webspace/$99/RaQ3 and then when I went down to rackshack/$99/RaQ4 it's like my mind completely re-wrote itself.

Sowwy. :(
(The info is still true, though - you don't have to pay extra to have MySQL or PHPMyAdmin installed. With a RaQ4, PHP is on there already and installing it on a RaQ3 is as simple as following Steve Bassi's great directions on the cobalt-users mailing list.)

Careful...
Rackshack says $99 for a 4i on their front page. Click the 'compare prices' link or click 'order', however, and the price jumps to $128.

Also, on the front page it says 335 available. Completely different story from the 'compare prices' page though, that says there's only 10 available. (and 42 machines total available.) - Either way, far less than 335.

Lots of incorrect things on the front page; could be construed as misleading or outright false.

Can anyone find this deal at $99 with 100GB Transfer?

Actually I m looking for Linux Dedicated Server with a resonable hardware with 100GB bandw. for around $100 or so. I don't like RaQs because of its design and limitation on performance.

Do take note though stsve the tera-byte owner is very unhappy about the poor customer service to those clients and is gunning for the tech's who provided the poor service.

I've had one problem with tera-byte customer service last summer and had it straightened out pretty fast by steve.

For an extra $10/month, they will co-brand it so you can keep your registered name servers

What do you mean co-brand? I'd expect if you have to pay for it, the only brand that will appear is yours, not Tera-Byte, right?

Why is it they don't want ns run off clients RaQ3 anymore? Is this just to make some extra bucks or is there a technical reason?

Actually they said they wanted people to do because of technical reasons, but its actually a better idea for you to have your server setup as primary and use one of their secondary servers, what happens if their servers get hacked, a ton of clients will be down, plus it is a good marketing gimmick...

Looks like their improving though, so I would still recommend them, every company goes through hard times its just how they correct them, that makes a company stand out from the comp.
