This reminds me of the old Network Solutions days. It's amazing that some companies are still charging this.

Every company is awful and sucks to some one. The hard part is finding the one that the least amount of people find awful.

Enom and Godaddy are pretty much the front runners of the "sucking less then most" trend.

Why do people still buys from these guys paying so much extra $$$$?

That extra USD25+ (per year!) is NOTHING compared to the (pseudo?) security feeling they are getting...

What *IS* USD25, anyway? One more hour of work? If you cannot afford that, it looks like you need some changes in your life. :)

NetworkSolutions still charges $35...
But you can have 70% off if you register for 100 years, for REAL. This company is a joke.

I agree.. his comment was just lame. Mabye he makes that much, mabye he's acting tough, but everyone has different wages.. Not everyone can spend that much.

As for register.com, I tried them once in the past... their a waste of time. Their support is even slower than godaddy's.

I make well over $25 per hour (and I dont say that to brag, so please no flame) and even so, I would never pay that much for a domain reg since there are several reputable companies that sell well under that.

Granted the big three/four are all over $20 the last time I checked, there are several resellers of them that will sell you names quite cheap in comparision.

ONly thing is that you may not get the phone support, and faster resolution on tickets since there is an intermediate chain.

The only reason people pay the retail price from the big guys is that the have some one to call and complain to when ever they want.

But like has been established, all support sucks and all is slow, and all domain companies are bad and evil and charge too much.

So why are we all buying domains again :)

I guess even GoDaddy offers phone support at the price at which they are selling.

So, i don't think that's the reason why people pay so much more for the domain.

Let's not forget Directi / Resellerclub here.
They are growing fast and doing a more then decent work with their system.

The thing with register.com is the same as with webhosting.com
They have very strong names and they have a lot of traffic because of that.

Traffic Rank for register.com:3343 with 50% of the people coming from US. People buy because they don't care about 10$ a year and they have a lot of business. It's their business model and it's a sound one. Not everybody is competing in price.

If it's working for them then it must be a good business model.
