hi,

im am using raq servers for almost 1 year now but i still have a problem.

i want to use the usb port to connect a usb stick or usb hdd drive to make backups.

but when i connect my stick or drive and boot the server it gives an error that MFG can not be hooked.

can anybody help me. my usb stick is fat. and my hdd drive is ntfs.
do i need linux partitions or something? if i do how can i produce that in windows?

Thanks in advance.

What Raq OS are you using? The original Raq 3/4 and 550 Linux kernel had very incomplete (almost non-existant) USB support -- they are based on a Linux kernel (2.2) that is now over 4 years old.

OSs with more modern kernels (CentOS+BQ, StrongBolt, and RackStar, all based on Linux 2.6.9 or later) have additional USB support, though I do not know whether they will support your application.

CentOS+BQ is 100% free, so go right ahead. And kudos to Brian at Nuonce.net for putting together the handy distro.

well i wanted to install the centos from nuonce but i gave me kernel panics. when booting. so i tried rackstar 1 and with succes.

ok now i got it working again, but i realy want to use the usb. nowhere in the admin panel is an option where i can use the usb or do something with it.
is there someone who made a gui package where we can use the usb?

I have never seen a GUI package specifically for USB. If it shows up as a drive, the GUI may handle it automatically. Otherwise you'll need to login as admin, su to root, and learn about "mount" and friends.

it looks like i have to go back to the drawing board and make the darn thing myself. ;P anybody has experience in making a addon for the gui? where do i need to be to edit the layout of the admin gui? is it the sausolito thingy?

A good start is to get Howie Dines' PHPMyInfo package for the StrongBolt (or Rackstar) from http://www.dincom.co.uk/bq/ and see how he did it (I've done a few, but his is all packaged). There is also a tutorial on the Sausalito interface somewhere on the BlueQuartz website, but it is half in Japanese.

I learned it by simply diving into /usr/sausalito and experimenting, as I think most did.

To answer your question it would help to know what os is on your raq's?.

well it's rackstar os1 now. i tried to install centos release by nuonce. but failed.

rackstar worked first try so i sticked to that. its not as good as the cent os bq, because of the updates. but hell its only for podcasts anyway. but i need the usb to backup my podcasts.
