No matter how good their service is, I'd look elsewhere because I don't know how anyone can make money off that... Believe me, they'll be broke in a matter of days... Rotifer 07-22-2002, 02:09 PM I know him, he does fairly well with it. cheapo 07-22-2002, 02:31 PM Hi, I run cheapwebhost.us. I realize I won't get rich quick by selling 85 cent web hosting, but I can and do make money. I've been doing web design and hosting locally in L.A. (Lower Alabama) for 5 years and recently decided to offer discount hosting through cheapwebhost.us. As I stated, I'm not out to get rich quick, I in it for the long haul.I just offer excellent service to my customers and treat them like I want to be treated. That's the only way to make it in this (or any other service) business. Mike CheapWebHost.US okihost 07-22-2002, 03:12 PM  QWEST 07-22-2002, 03:44 PM a smiley says it all. dynamitehost 07-22-2002, 04:12 PM Actually its not exactly cheap if you see what he is offering for $0.85, 20mb space and 500mb bandwidth... i'd say that was about right :D Rotifer 07-22-2002, 04:28 PM 20mb space and 500mb bandwidth Correct, Mike is shooting for a segment of the market most of us don't touch. okihost 07-22-2002, 04:47 PM I dunno but I know I would not even pick my nose for someone for .85 cents a month.. I guess if you get 100000000 customers and put 10000 sites on each server and have no problems and offer no support at all you might be able to make a couple bucks. cheapo 07-23-2002, 12:54 AM Ouch! You guys are brutal. But we don't sit around picking our noses. we take care of our customers. Gem Hexen 07-23-2002, 02:56 AM Originally posted by cheapo That's the only way to make it in this (or any other service) business. No it isn't. Quality is just as important if not more important than price... porcupine 07-23-2002, 03:21 AM I'd imagine if billing, signup, cancellations, etc. were all 100% automated, and it was clearly stated technical support would *not* be supplied for anything aside from server errors (which if you ask me is not unreasonable, if you sell someone an account and state "you're on your own for anything aside from server problems", i think thats very fair as long as it's crystal clear), then i could see that being a profitable venture, as long as you didn't use a merchant that sucked like $0.25/transaction :D Internet8000 07-23-2002, 05:33 AM What about schnell!! http://www.schnell.net/webhosting.html .25 cents a month! :D Reptilian Feline 07-23-2002, 05:46 AM :emlaugh: :dunce: :dgrin: What a joke! Hey It's Me 07-23-2002, 09:13 AM $9.00 additional fee every time you mention "Microsoft FrontPage." Now that's a fee worth charging! Gordo 07-23-2002, 09:49 AM In regard to cheapwebhost.us, I believe it's viable if the webmaster's knowledge is substantial but his profit goals are modest. Space is cheap. It's bandwidth, features and servicing that costs. He's going after a slice of the market few seem to want, but the market is very substantial. Millions of people have websites that use little bw. I believe if he "takes care of business" he can do quite well financially with this. |
