DomainNameSystems.com SUCKS!
With the new EPP/Auth Code system, I knew this was going to happen and it did. DomainNameSystems.com / Cheapies.com is not providing the EPP/Auth Code for a domain so that you can transfer it away from them. I have 23 domains I want to remove from there service and after 14 emails, 5 voice messages, 2 letters to ICANN, 1 to Internic they have yet to respond and provide me with the codes needs to transfer. Pretty much they're holding my domains and not alwaying me to leave there service. I'm now preparing legal action against them for violating ICANN's Agreement, my lawyer is in the process of writing up the paper work.

I'll keep everyone posted as to the out come.

DomainNameSystems.com SUCKS!

when did you register the domains there ?

cause if you registered them <60days ago then you have to wait until the 60th day to be able to transfer them away...

But registrars are obliged to provide auth codes to registrants REGARDLESS, no?

yes, but i'm not sure if you can't get the auth code if the domain is younger than 60 days

Registrars CAN generate auth codes for 1 day old (newly registered) domains. The question is, will they give it to you. ;)

i've had these domains for years, with them. so its not about a time limit... it's about them not wanting to lose business so they're forcing me to stay...

Update:
after about 15 emails, 6 phone calls, and multiple faxes. they finally give me the AuthCode, but they've now LOCKED/BLOCK my account so I can no longer login to there system and have Registrar Locked all the domains. Note, I previously unlocked the domains before. But now they're all locked and I can't tranfer the domains not can I login to unlock them again.

Unfreakin believable that a company would act this way. The domains belong to me, and I should be able to move them whenever I want. Now, I pretty much have to get a lawyer cause I can't manage any of my domains anymore.

just an update... Chris over at Cheapies.com has been very helpful I also must make it know that Cheapies.com is just the ICANN Registrar and I believe DomainNameSystems is a reseller. I've had zero problems communicating with Cheapies.com and Chris over at there. I'm still waiting for my domains to transfer and I hope everything goes well. The support at DomainNameSystems was not pleasant for me. Customers shouldn't have to wait 5days to get a reply. Anyway, I'll update once all domains have transferred.

As of today i'm still locked out of my DomainNameSystems account with 46 domains pending transfer.

ICANN says (http://icann.org/transfers/policy-12jul04.htm) that customer actually CAN wait:

Registrars must provide the Registered Name Holder with the unique "AuthInfo" code within five (5) calendar days of the Registered Name Holder's initial request if the Registrar does not provide facilities for the Registered Name Holder to generate and manage their own unique "AuthInfo" code.

ICANN says (http://icann.org/transfers/policy-12jul04.htm) that customer actually CAN wait:

Yes, I've read that but although I did get a reply it did not include the EPP/AUTH codes. It took 2 more days of fustration which resulted in me request all my domains to be moved before the Registrar generated the codes on behalf of DomainNameSystems.

I still have those 23 domains waiting transfer, the first time around they all failed. And DomainNameSystems sent a rude letter to me saying it was the fault of my new Registrar. I unlocked all my domains prior to the banning my account on there system but now all the domains are appearing as
"Domain Status: clientTransferProhibited" which from my research means LOCKED. And, of course DNS will not respond to my emails nor allow me to access my account to see if the domains are truely still unlocked. I'm not sure if DomainNameSystems is run by a staff but is seems like its just one person "Gord".

Anyway i'm processing the domains again even though they all say Domain Status: clientTransferProhibited on them =( I hope thats just a whois update delay but its been 48hrs since the resubmit still "Domain Status: clientTransferProhibited" but no rejection email yet, my fingers are crossed.

Hmmmm, I found this thread on google :P I was looking to find a clue as to where they have the EPP on the site, but I guess it aint there. I contacted support a few days ago to ask them about it. Looks like I might have a battle ahead transferring my first ever domain away from them :s

I am also being screwed over by domainnamesystems.com aka cheepies.com - the refused to transfer one of businesses backbone domains and then transferred it away without my consent.

DOMAINNAMESYSTEMS.COM / CHEEPIES.COM ARE SCAMMERS!!

Make sure you all have proof of purchase and copies of the whois records which clearly show you as the owners.

I am part of this unfortunate bunch... I was a happy and satisfied customer of DomainNameSystems since 99 with no problems until summer of 2009.
Looks like a change of ownership or staff occurred at that time and everything went downhill since.

I had over 50 domains with them and now, after much pains, still have 39 that I am desperate to transfer. I filed complaints with ICANN, the Better Business Bureau of the Province of Ontario but nothing seems to affect them.

Out of a request of 10 domain transfers they usually provide the EPP code for one or two then you have to fight with them for the rest.

The big question is how do we go above them? Who can ultimately help us get away from a bad registrar?

I ended up finding the EPP on the site after googling. I found a site which tells how to get EPP codes from numerous registrars. Got my domains away a couple of years ago :)

Care to share that site, anon-e-mouse?

That was over two years ago, but googling again now I found http://www.domainnamesystems.com/faqs.html?ref=s0d.org#TR1

# Ensure you have unlocked your domain name. Locking prevents transfers, and if the domain is locked it will not transfer.
# Ensure you have acquired the EPP code. It is available within your domain edit screen.
# Ensure the domain is at least 60 days past the last transaction date.
# Allow 24 hrs after unlocking to ensure the registry has updated with the request.

Can anyone even get to http://www.domainnamesystems.com or http://cheapies.com ? They seem to be unreachable today.
